A Personal Experience Sent by Kittn
(From Kittn)
I'd like to share something that happened to me last
night. It
still has me quite shaken.
I had just gotten off work and it was about 9 pm. It was dark outside
and I
don't work in the safest of areas. My walk to the bus stop is about a
quarter of a mile, mostly past businesses that have been shut down for
quite
awhile, therefore leaving a very dark place to walk. Being a Saturday,
the
bar I had to walk by was jumping, I think little of it, being there's
plenty
of people who could hear a scream or see something. But as I rounded a
corner and started toward the deserted part of my walk a white pickup
came
into the parking lot. A man, alone in the truck drove slowly past me,
almost
matching my walking pace. He sped up and went around an empty building
leaving me no sight of him from around the corner. I immediately put my
thoughts into gear and grabbed my only form of self defense, a knife,
from
my bag. (I am not stupid about the area I work in.) I then realized I
would
be safer on the other side of the street, a little more light there,
and NO
access for a vehicle. As I was heading for the mostly empty street to
cross,
the truck came from waiting and drove slowly past as I was crossing the
street. After I made it safely across, he gave up and left the area, or
so I
hoped. I saw the truck drive past me on the street after I had got to
the
bus stop, he didn't see me and I was glad for that, though still shaken
from
it, I knew that I had done the smartest thing I could at that point and
kept
my wits about me.
I needed to write about it, perhaps someone will see this and know that
if
they get into such a situation there is a way to control it.
Also if you are out of sight get the license plate number. This way you can report a suspious vehicle and give as much info as you can.
This way if something happens in that area where the discription is similar they will have more to go on.
That's one thing I didn't think about, however I did not the Make and Model of the truck and can still remember a decent description of the guy. Next time I will remember that.
It is easy for me to say next time since it already happened. These are just suggestions for others who might find themselves in your situation.
You did the right thing!
When faced with such a frightening situation it's hard to know what to do or what to remember. I suggest a notepad that you keep in your purse or pocket at all times.
On the notepad write these down like a list and skip spaces so if you need it it's ready:
Time:
Date:
Location:(Include Intersection)
Vehicle Color:
How Many Doors:
Any Marks or Dents:(Lights broken or out, primer color on doors ect)
License Plate Number and State: (If you can't make it all out write what you can. Even if you can only see the color of the plate that does help.No detail is too small)
Driver Discription: (Anything was it male or female, hat or hair color, How many were in the vehicle ect.)
Direction of travel: (use landmarks if you have to or if you don't know the N.S,E,W for that area example went towards McDonalds and turned right)
Keep it with you so god forbid you need it you'll not have to think it will already be writen down for you.
Hope this helps.
That is so scary and I am glad you kept your cool and wits. Did you call the police to let them know about it so they can keep an eye out? I'm glad you are safe.
