Spencer Douglas Grant, who Lakewood police think might know what happened to Adre-Anna Jackson, found the missing 10-year-old’s body in March but did not call police to report the discovery, his girlfriend said Tuesday.
Grant, 44, a transient known to frequent the vacant lot where the Tillicum girl’s remains were recovered, found the bones March 10 or 11, Julie Warren, 41, told The News Tribune.
Grant wanted her to go to the lot, located in the 7500 block of 146th Street Southwest, to look at the remains “to see if it was the right size to be” Adre-Anna, but she never did, Warren said.
Because Grant was in the Pierce County Jail when Adre-Anna disappeared Dec. 2, police have stressed he is not a suspect or a person of interest in her death.
Warren said neither she nor Grant called police to report the bones because “there didn’t seem to be any time for it.” He landed back in jail March 13, and she was busy with her pregnancy – she gave birth March 23 – she said.
She said she has not seen or heard from Grant since April 1, when he left to look for one of his sisters.
Investigators on Tuesday continued to search the area where two boys found Adre-Anna’s remains April 4, said Lakewood police Lt. Bret Farrar. A team of detectives is following up on tips about Grant’s whereabouts, he said.
Tuesday night, about 100 people gathered outside Tillicum Elementary School at a memorial for Adre-Anna. Her father, Jon Federici, attended the event but did not speak to the crowd.
Tacoma-Pierce County Crime Stoppers, the FBI and several anonymous donors have offered up to $60,000 for information leading to arrests, charges filed and convictions in the death of Adre-Anna Jackson. Reach Crime Stoppers at 253-591-5959.
