Background: With this new stamp featuring a chalk pastel illustration by
artist Vivienne Flesher showing a reunited mother and child
entwined in each other's arms, the U.S. Postal Service
continues its tradition of drawing attention to important
social causes. The AMBER Alert stamp honors a program
dedicated to the rapid recovery of abducted children. AMBER
stands for America's Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response.
Following the tragic death of Amber Hagerman, this program
was created to broadcast emergency messages that a child has
been abducted and is in imminent danger as determined by a
law enforcement agency. This program has successfully helped
in the recovery of over 240 children. The stamp will be
unveiled during the Department of Justice's commemoration of
National AMBER Alert Awareness Day.
NOTE: All media must present Government-Issued Photo ID (such as
driver's license) as well as VALID MEDIA CREDENTIALS.
Cameras must be pre-set between 9 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. EST.
