Sunday, January 07, 2007 Woman arrested in death of 3-year-old Associated Press Posted: 1/6/07 4:00pm A woman was arrested on murder charges after a 3 1/2 year-old girl she was caring for died of severe head injuries, Phoenix police said Saturday. Officers and fire department crews were called to an apartment near Central and Thomas about 1:20 p.m. Friday and found little Chloe Chance injured, Detective Bob Ragsdale said. She was taken to a hospital where doctors found she had severe head injuries and a broken shoulder. She died about 9 p.m. Friday. Homicide detectives were called and interviewed the people in the house. They determined that Ambure Lynn Steer, 28, was the only adult home at the time and the only person who could have caused Chloe's injuries, Ragsdale said. She also made statements that did not match the child's injuries. She was booked on first degree murder and child abuse charges. Steer is the girlfriend of Chloe's adult half-brother and shared the apartment with him, Chloe and Chloe's 5-year-old sister, Ragsdale said. The half-brother was at work at the time so he was cleared. The children's parents live in the Phoenix area but the children had been staying with their half-brother for more than a month, Ragsdale said. http://www.abc15.com/news/index.asp?did=32379
