Are you shy or scared about contacting your Elected Official
I know it seems very intimidating when it comes to calling or writing your Elected Officials. When I worked for another site and I had to call them I was petrified. Until I realized they are just regular people like us. They have families, pets, houses, catch colds, eat and go to the bathroom just like we do. They aren’t superstars, they are people we put in office to make our voices and opinions heard.
So if there is an issue you feel strongly about no matter how big or small don’t hesitate about contacting them. They can’t read our minds and if we don’t tell them what we want or how we feel they can’t represent us to the fullest.
Trust me it gets easier each time. So pick up the phone and call them. Or write them a letter or email.. I found the phone works much better. If you have any questions just ask.
Alot of people are either afraid to contact them or think their voice and opinion won't matter or make a difference. That's simply not true. They want and need to hear from us especially when it comes to such important topics. It only takes one voice, one letter or phone call to make a difference.
I've found that when I contact the elected officials in my area that are trying to push for stricter sex offender laws, they are THRILLED to hear from a private citizen. I think that lawmakers may feel sometimes that they are all alone in these fights to get laws passed, and in fact, they are. Not enough private citizens are eager to get involved - maybe they feel that they did their part my going to the voting booths.
It takes EVERYONE to make these significant changes.
Oh yeah, the mayor and city council of my old town were thrilled to receive my letter. They also put my letter in the proposal for the new buffer zone law that was passed and the newspaper interviewed me about it and encouraging others to do the same by getting involved.
Aside with the above of being to shy or thinking what they say won't matter, some want to but don't know where to go or how to proceed.
