Tuesday, 7 November 2006.
Last week's release of annual state crime statistics revealed that all homicides committed in the northern region were the result of domestic violence.
The two murders committed in Mount Isa and another five in Townsville represented a 40 per cent increase over the past 12 months.
Domestic violence counsellor Shirley Slan says authorities need to boost rehabilitation services available to male offenders.
"We are looking at ways of combating domestic and family violence. We have been pushing for some time, though, to get a perpetrator program set up in Mount Isa and I believe unless we start funding programs to assist perpetrators of violence, nothing is going to change," she said.
