Authorities are investigating whether a dismembered body found at a Paterson home is that of a 27-year-old Randolph woman who has been missing since June 10.
Members of the Morris County Prosecutor's Office Missing Persons Unit, Randolph Township Police Department, Morris County Prosecutor's Office Fugitive Unit and the Passaic County Sheriff's Office went to a Paterson residence to pursue an investigative lead into the disappearance of a 27-year-old Randolph woman Tuesday, according to Robyn D'Onofrio, a spokeswoman for the Morris County Prosecutor's office.
Detectives were met by a man who has a "known association to the missing Randolph woman," D'Onofrio said.
An unidentified woman's body was found dismembered within the residence, and the man is being held in connection with the death, according to a spokesman with the Passaic County Sheriff's Office. Passaic County officials say they are looking at the possibility that the body is that of the missing Randolph woman.
The investigation into the woman's death is being conducted by the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office and the Paterson Police Department. Further information is pending the identification of the deceased and notification to the victim's family, authorities said.
"This is a tragic set of circumstances and our heartfelt condolences go out to the victim's family," Morris County Prosecutor Robert Bianchi said. "Our investigative and legal resources will work closely with Passaic County authorities to insure that the investigation moves forward in an expeditious manner."
