Baby Girl Nelson - Missing/Critically Ill - April '09 - NVPolice Search for Missing Baby and Mom

Police in North Las Vegas are asking for help to find a two-month-old girl who is very sick. The mother disappeared with the baby and doctors say the child desperately needs medical care.
This story begins at North Vista Hospital. 30-year-old Janette Nelson checked in under a false name and gave birth to a little girl. After being discharged, doctors say lab work showed the infant had a dangerous infectious disease.
"With this infectious disease, it could be potentially life threatening if this child does not get medical treatment. So our concern right now is to bring her forward with the child or bring the child forward just to get medical treatment," said Officer Chrissie Coon with the North Las Vegas Police Department.
Nelson, who checked in under the name Rochelle Brown, was contacted about the need to get her daughter medical attention, but she refused to bring the infant in.
Police are now searching for the child and her mother. She was last seen near Cheyenne and Civic Center. Officers are asking for the public's help in finding the child quickly, however they don't want to alarm anyone who may have contact with the infant.
"It is not a threat to the public. This is not something where, if mom is in the grocery store with the child, that somebody is going to potentially contract what this child has," said Officer Coon.
Police say anyone can bring the child in for treatment -- they don't need the mother.
Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Janette Nelson or the baby girl is urged to contact Detective Dave Molnar at (702) 633-1779, or to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at (702) 385-5555.
