Officials widen search for baby's ID Posted on Tue, Mar. 28, 2006 BY STAN FINGERThe Wichita Eagle Unable to learn more about a deceased newborn baby found along Cow Creek just west of Hutchinson two weeks ago, Reno County authorities have expanded the scope of their investigation. The National Center for Exploited and Missing Children has been contacted, Reno County Sheriff Randy Henderson said Monday, and authorities are hoping to draw national attention to the case. The goal is to identify the child they call Baby Jane and "give the opportunity for a proper burial," Henderson said. The baby's mother may have been a transient, he said, which could explain why little information has surfaced. The child was found March 14 near K-96; authorities believe she was born the previous day. Because of the state of the body, authorities said, the child's race, hair and eye color could not be determined. The full-term infant weighed 5 pounds and was 20 inches long. Her umbilical cord was still attached. If you know a woman who recently was pregnant but has no newborn, you are asked to contact the Reno County Sheriff's Department at (620) 694-2735 or Reno County's Crime Stoppers at (620) 694-2666. http://www.kansas.com/mld/kansas/news/local/14200858.htm

Reno County police officers ask for nationwide help in Baby Jane case March 28, 2006 By The News staff Reno County Sheriff Randy Henderson said Monday his office has contacted the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in a case involving a newborn girl found dead two weeks ago in the backyard of a Willowbrook home. "Baby Jane's" body was found March 14, and investigators think the girl was dumped in nearby Cow Creek and later dragged out of the water by an animal. Henderson said the lack of information led officers to ask for nationwide help. "The main goal of this investigation is to identify and to give the opportunity for a proper burial for "Baby Jane," Henderson said in a press release. Detectives still request the public's help in the case. Anyone with information about Baby Jane or her mother should call (620) 694-2735 or Crime Stoppers at (620) 694-2666. http://www.hutchnews.com/news/local/stories/babyjane032806.html
