Bill Would Register Sex Offender E-Mail
Legislation has been introduced in the U.S. Senate that would require sex offenders to register their e-mail addresses with authorities.
Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., and Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., say their bill would allow social networking sites like MySpace to cross-check users against lists of registered sex offenders.
Just like in our actual neighborhoods, sex offenders must make themselves known in our virtual neighborhoods as well, Schumer said. Millions of teenagers log on to Web sites like MySpace and they shouldn't have to worry about running into these predators online.
MySpace, in a press release, said it supports the bill, calling it a landmark in Internet safety.
