Body found in 18-wheeler Posted: 8:24 PM Jun 14, 2008 Last Updated: 11:12 PM Jun 14, 2008 Reporter: Shalah Sasse Email Address: shalah.sasse@wrdw.com 0 comments -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A | A | A News 12 at 6:00, June 14, 2008 Augusta, Ga. --- Richmond County Investigators found the body in an 18-wheeler trailer at the Smurfit-Stone recycling plant on Walker Street in Augusta. Deputies got the call around 10:00 Saturday morning. When investigators arrived at the scene they saw two legs hanging out of recycled cardboard inside the trailer and the man was buried underneath. The trailer has been on site and loaded for five months but investigators don't know how long the body has been there. There are several trailers parked in the area and all of them were locked except for the one where the body was found. "Located approximately 150-200 yards down the railroad tracks and up under the John C. Calhoun Expressway is the Salvation Army. The fact that this person could be a homeless person looking for a place to rest or anything of that nature, is definitely not ruled out," Investigator Earnest Furgeison said. Investigators say the body was extremely decomposed. The coroner says the man has probably been dead since October. The body has been sent to the state crime lab in Atlanta. http://www.wrdw.com/home/headlines/19946494.html
