Body found in burned home may be missing person By KATHY JEFCOATS The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Published on: 02/08/08 Medical examiners are working to identify a body found inside a vacant Jonesboro home that burned to the ground Sunday. Clayton County police were alerted to the body Thursday by an insurance investigator. Police said the body was found in the debris on the lower level of a house on Mockingbird Trail. Capt. Greg Dickens said firefighters had no reason to believe anyone was inside the house because it was supposed to be vacant and the utilities were disconnected. The fire was not being investigated as an arson, police said. The body may be that of a person with health problems who had been reported missing, Dickens said. Body Found Three Days After House Fire POSTED: 5:00 pm EST February 7, 2008 UPDATED: 5:43 pm EST February 7, 2008 CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Clayton County officials said a body was found inside a burned out house on Mockingbird Trail Thursday morning. Authorities say the fire happened three days ago. Annie Watson believes her daughter, 41-year-old Alfreda Watson, was the person who was found inside the burned out Clayton County home. "I came by one time but I couldn't stand it because I thought she was in there. I didn't want to come through here," said Alfreda's mother, Annie Watson. The fire happened Saturday night. Channel 2's JaQuitta Williams asked Annie why she thought the body found in the home was her daughter. "Because she hadn't called home, or come home, or called any of her friends or anybody since it happened," Annie answered. "It appears that our investigator did not discover the body," said Chief Alex Cohilas with the Clayton County Fire Department. "It was discovered by an insurance investigator." Annie said a friend of her daughter's dropped her off at the home on Mockingbird Trail Saturday after partying and drinking with some friends at a pre-Super Bowl house party. Investigators believe the fire happened late Saturday night into Sunday morning. Alfreda's family said no one has heard from her since. Right now, investigators said they have not been able to identify the body because it was so badly burned. They said the body was difficult to find because of all the debris on top of it. "The body was found only after about two days worth of digging that took place," said Cohilas. Officials said the family that lived in the home moved out three weeks ago but Alfreda Watson had been friends with those homeowners.
