NOPD seeks help in homicide case The New Orleans coroner’s office has ruled that a decomposed body found in Eastern New Orleans died of asphyxiation in an apparent homicide, the New Orleans police department announced Thursday. The corpse remains unidentified, but police released a few details about the homicide victim Thursday and asked for the public's help in investigating the crime. Police found the body wrapped in a blanket Aug. 2 in overgrown brush of the Bayou Sauvage refuge at the Michoud Boulevard exit off Interstate 10, according to an NOPD news release. The victim was an African-American man between the ages of 25 to 35, between 5-feet-six and 5-feet-10 inches tall and wearing a white tank top undershirt. The victim had two upper teeth covered with gold, and a fracture of his right nasal bone that was possibly from an old injury, a forensic anthropologist found in the autopsy. Homicide Detective Harold Wischan, Jr. is in charge of the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 822-1111 or (877) 903-7867. Callers do not have to leave their name in order to earn a reward for information that leads to an indictment. http://www.nola.com/newslogs/tpupdates/index.ssf?/mtlogs/nola_tpupdates/archives/2006_12_14.html
