A child's life is priceless, and officials at the East Texas Professional Credit Union and Project KidCare teamed up on Friday to give parents a little peace of mind when it comes to the safety of their children.
East Texas Professional Credit Union and Project KidCare, a national child identification and safety education program, provided free photo identifications and fingerprints to people throughout the community.
"Our credit union is really involved in the community and we know that, in the event that a child goes missing, having this type of information on-hand is important," said Janice Crews, the bank's marketing director.
About 50 children and their parents were given safety material Friday, according to Crews.
Children of all ages came to the business to have their pictures taken, even those who could barely hold their head up.
Dawn Jeffery brought both her daughters, ages 6 years old and 4 months old, to have their fingers smothered in black ink.
"Anything that has to do with the safety of my children, I'm signing up for," Jeffery said.
She said she felt it was important to have her 6-year-old daughter's personal statistics recorded because her daughter is at an age where she is becoming more independent.
"She's active and she's starting to do more things on her own," Jeffery said. "I pray nothing happens to her, but if it does, we'll be prepared."
Updated photographs are a huge help for law enforcement officials, Crews said, adding that photographs and fingerprints can lead to a faster recovery of lost children.
