Coalition Against Institutionalized ChildAbuse/petition
Coalition Against Institutionalized Child Abuse 7/9/2006 3:21:31 PM Contact: Isabelle Zehnder E-mail: info@caica.org Website: www.caica.org July 10, 2006/Webwire Vancouver, WA – Coalition Against Institutionalized Child Abuse (CAICA) has recently expanded their website (www.caica.org) to broaden awareness to an industry involving our most precious commodity - children. With the recent deaths of Martin Lee Anderson, Giovanni Aletriz, Dillon Peak, and Angellika Arndt, and the need for intervention on the rise, CAICA is determined to bring public awareness. CAICA has expanded to include information regarding facilities for mentally challenged children. Currently they provide news updates, press releases, special reports, and more. With their expansion, they have recently added articles on the use of restraints and CAICA’s Corner which offers educational books, DVD’s, and valuable information. “We seek to expose and rectify the abuse and distress of children placed in private residential facilities, behavior modification programs, boot camps, wilderness programs, boarding schools, and mental health facilities,” says Isabelle Zehnder, Founder and President of CAICA. “We believe that no child should be abducted, incarcerated, abused, neglected, or stripped of their basic human rights for the sake of profit.” Recent boot camp closings in Florida, combined with new findings regarding the Columbine incident of 1999, are disturbing. Today, more than ever, desperate parents are seeking alternatives for their troubled children. At this critical time in our society it is important for families to know there is help. However, it is imperative that parents do their research prior to residential placement. CAICA aims to educate parents about the tough love and mental health industries which can be both confusing yet necessary. Jordan Riak, President of Project NoSpank, provides a resource for all those concerned with the wellbeing of children (www.nospank.net). Sue Scheff, President of P.U.R.E., provides a service to assist parents and offers resources to make better choices(www.helpyourteens.com). It is CAICA’s goal to be a voice for all children who are abused, neglected, and who have died in residential treatment settings. Please take a moment to Sign the International Petition Against Institutionalized Child Abuse to help give these children a voice. CAICA provides weekly E-mail News Updates. If you would like to receive these updates, please contact info@caica.org. "These heinous, malicious and torturous treatments led to his death." He goes on to say: Waylon Graham, the attorney for Lt. Charles Helms, the highest-ranking officer who was on the exercise yard with the teen, questioned the family's motives in suing. "None of these officers set out to harm this young man in any way," Graham said. "I think this has turned into a game of money." We must ask ourselves: Does, after reading the countless articles and watching the vide (above), what Mr. Graham have to say make any sense? Why are these men not in jail? If parents were caught doing what this group of men did to their own children, undoubtedly they would be held accountable and most likely they would be in jail. (click here for article) (click here for Martin's main page) Daniela Velazquez's July 13, 2006 article Teen's parents blame officials for his death quotes Attorney Crump: "it's about so much more than money," but predicted a Florida jury would return a verdict similar to Alexander's case. He called Anderson's death "far more heinous, far more overt and far more worse than Bryan Alexander's." In Harm's Way: Use of physical force on troublesome kids unchecked; By Barbara White Stack Pittsburg Post Gazette; September 20, 2005; Larrel Dallas' arms already were broken when the breath began to be pressed out of him ... Two workers ... holding him face down in the dirt, one on his legs, the other pinning the 14-year-old's arms behind his back. Dallas heard the bones snap as one worker yanked his hands toward his head. His arms went numb. He feared for his life. "Can't breathe, can't breathe," he choked out. An asthma sufferer, he knew the panic of breathlessness. Unmoved by his pleas, the workers remained on top of him for 20 minutes. "I just closed my eyes," Dallas recounted.
