Dallas police issue Amber Alert for missing baby BY DOMINGO RAMIREZ JR.ramirez@star-telegram.com DALLAS -- Authorities issued an Amber Alert on Wednesday for an 8-month-old girl whose mother told authorities that her baby had been kidnapped. The alert was issued for Daisja Weaver who was last seen wearing a red hoodie sweatshirt. The Amber Alert came more than 10 hours after the 22-pound, black-haired and brown-eyed Daisja was taken because police said that the parents gave conflicting stories about their daughter. But authorities issued the Amber Alert just before noon Wednesday. Officers searched for evidence late Tuesday and Wednesday morning at the apartment where the baby was last reported being seen by her mother. The incident began about 11:40 p.m. Tuesday when officers responded to a report of a kidnapping at the Preston Oaks Apartments, 6801 Preston Oaks Road. A woman told police that a man entered her apartment and tried to assault her. The woman fought him off, but the man grabbed the baby and fled the apartment. Officers using dogs and a police helicopter have searched the area around the complex. Police had said earlier in the day that the information that the parents had been giving to investigators did not meet the criteria for an Amber Alert. Jun 10, 2009 11:00 pm US/Central Dallas Police Issue Amber Alert For Missing Baby Compiled From Staff Reports DALLAS (CBS 11 News) Dallas police issued an Amber Alert for Daisja Weaver on June 10, 2009. The infant's mother, Tamaira Creagh, told authorities she was attacked at the Oak Run Apartments, located in the 5800 block of Preston Oaks Road. The incident happened just before midnight on Tuesday. The child, Daisja Weaver, has been described as an African American girl. She turned nine-months-old Tuesday, weighs 22 pounds, has black hair, brown eyes and was wearing a red or purple outfit at the time of the possible kidnapping. According to authorities on the scene, Creagh told police that her apartment door may have been wide open because she was in the process of moving out. That is when Creagh said a Hispanic man wearing a red and black hoodie attempted to assault her, took her daughter and jumped from the balcony to make a quick escape. Wednesday afternoon a trained team of dogs and searchers spent hours searching the apartment complex for clues, but found nothing. Police admit they are growing frustrated. "We've gone quite a time since the child was taken and we're still at square one. Our main focus is finding that child. So the longer it goes on the more frustrating it is for us," said Dallas Police Cprl. Kevin Janse. It is even more frustrating for Creagh, who is pregnant. "Bring us our child. Please. Daisja, I need you mama. I need you so bad," Tamaira Creagh pleaded. "Whoever has my little girl, bring her back. She needs her mom. She needs her dad. She needs us," she continued. Police believe the baby is alive. They say they have no reason to believe otherwise. Police are asking for the public's help in their search for the child. "We're hoping that somebody saw something and call in," said Sgt. Reginald Matthew with the Dallas Police Department. The father of the baby was across town at a new apartment, where the couple was moving into when the alleged attack happened. He has been described as being extremely distraught, and has been cleared as a suspect. The mother was taken to the hospital and released. Detectives questioned her and the father in an attempt to get more information on the case. "There are guidelines to issue an Amber Alert," explained Sr. Cpl. Kevin Janse, with the Dallas Police Department. "There needs to be a definitive description of the suspect she wasn't sure of exact race, she didn't see a face. To issue the alert we had to have a definitive description." After clearing up conflicting reports from the parents the Amber Alert was issued. The couple was allowed to leave after police questioning. http://cbs11tv.com/local/Baby.Possibly.Kidnapped.2.1038658.html

They say they have no reason to believe otherwise. Police are asking for the public's help in their search for the child. "We're hoping that somebody saw something and call in," said Sgt. Father of missing baby Daisja Weaver talked of blood in apartment, police say 10:32 AM Mon, Jun 15, 2009 Steve Thompson/Reporter Soon after 9-month-old Daisja Weaver went missing, her father told her mother she should not have signed anything to let police inside their new apartment because there was blood inside, Dallas police say. The father, 20-year-old Alandus Weaver, was talking to the mother, 19-year-old Tamaira Creagh in a "very threatening manner," according to a search warrant affidavit by detectives seeking to search the apartment on Marsh Lane on Wednesday. Two detectives overheard the conversation, the affidavit says. It is not clear how much the father's alleged statements helped precipitate his arrest over the weekend. In the affidavit, police stated they wanted to search the apartment for the baby, blood or other evidence of injury to a child. Parents of Amber Alert Baby Arrested BJ Austin, KERA News (2009-06-15) DALLAS, TX (KERA) - Divers are searching for a nine-month old missing Dallas girl in Lake Lewisville - near the I-35 bridge. KERA's BJ Austin says the baby's 19 year old mother has recanted her story of a kidnapping. Dallas Police Senior Corporal Kevin Janse says the 19 year old mother now says she found the baby cold, unresponsive, lying on the floor when she arrived home from work last Tuesday. In police documents, she tells investigators her 20 year old husband would not say what happened. Janse says the woman admits the story of the kidnapping by an intruder was a lie. She told police to look in the lake. He says this Amber Alert case has been very frustrating. Janse: We knew there was a 9 month old baby girl, and we wanted to find her. It was very frustrating in the fact that we were not getting any information from the parents. That did lead to a long, drawn out search that obviously didn't need to take place. The parents are in jail, arrested for tampering with evidence, and the search for their daughter continues. Janse expects charges will be upgraded in the case: when, and specific charges against whom, he can't say at this time. Police Search 3rd Day For Baby Published : Tuesday, 16 Jun 2009, 8:00 AM CDT DALLAS - Search crews plan to be on the waters of Lake Lewisville Tuesday for a third day in the hunt for a missing 9-month-old girl. Daisja Weaver's parents are both jailed on charges of tampering with evidence in the case. On Monday, police arrested the baby's mother, 19-year-old Tamaira Creagh. Her boyfriend, 20-year-old Alandus Weaver, was arrested Saturday. Just a few days earlier, Creagh told police that the baby was dead when she came home from work. She claimed Weaver made her drive with him to Lake Lewisville where he stopped on a bridge, tied a sandbag to the baby's body and dropped it into the water. Two previous searches have revealed nothing. Sr. Cpl Kevin Janse said police were searching in "various" locations for clues to the baby's whereabouts, and that the Amber Alert was still in effect. http://www.myfoxdfw.com/dpp/news/Police_Search_3rd_Day_For_Baby

Affidavit: Baby Dropped Into Lake Published : Monday, 15 Jun 2009, 12:46 PM CDT DALLAS - The mother of a missing 9-month-old baby girl told police that the child's father tied a sandbag to their daughter's lifeless body and dropped her into Lewisville Lake, according to a police affadavit released Monday. Tamaira Creagh was arrested Monday on charges of tampering with evidence to hinder an investigation. Her boyfriend, 20-year-old Alandus Weaver, was arrested Saturday night on the same charges. Police searched the water near the I-35 bridge for a second day on Monday for any evidence to link to the case, but have not yet called off the Amber Alert. Creagh, 19, initially claimed a masked man broke into her apartment, tried to sexually assault her, then snatched her daughter Daisja Weaver last Tuesday. But on Saturday, June 13, Creagh met with police and told a different story. She said on Monday, June 9, her boyfriend picked her up from work alone. When she asked where Daisja was, he replied the child was at home by herself, and that he had given her a bath. They returned to find the baby wrapped in a towel on the floor. Creagh said the Daisja was cold to the touch and didn't have a heartbeat. The affadavit says Weaver performed CPR for 30 minutes, but became violent toward Creagh when she asked what happened to the baby. When Creagh tried to call 911, she said that Weaver stopped her, saying they had to "stick together." The next day after work, she said he made Creagh drive with him to Lewisville Lake, where he stopped on a bridge, tied a sandbag to the baby's body and dropped it into the water. Police initially waited more than 12 hours after Creagh first called them to declare an Amber Alert because they said her story details kept changing. They were skeptical of her kidnapping story because she did not have a good description of the kidnapper. Creagh was being held in the Dallas County Jail. In a statement sent to FOX 4 her attorney said, "In spite of her extensive cooperation with law enforcement and continued victimization by all involved, Mrs. Creagh has been unfairly subjected to criminal prosecution. While she remains anxious to cooperate and seek justice for her child, law enforcement personnel have erroneously made her a suspect as opposed to the victim and witness that she actually is." Weaver remains in jail in lieau of a $100,000 bond and a hold from Richardson police on a no driver's license charge. His family members have previously said Weaver thinks Creagh is trying to blame him for whatever happened to their daughter. http://www.myfoxdfw.com/dpp/news/Affidavit_Baby_Dropped_Into_L
