Police issued a warning Friday after a convicted pedophile was released into a Vancouver halfway house.
David Emlyn Akerman has finished serving a 30-month sentence on two counts of sexual assault and two of invitation to sexual touching involving children.
A former Kamloops resident, Akerman was the subject of a failed attempt to declare him a dangerous offender two years ago.
The initial designation was rejected by an appeal court based on what a judge deemed faulty psychiatric evidence.
At the second hearing in 2005, video testimony was heard from women who said they were his victims dating back more than 30 years.
Police confirmed in the public warning Friday that Akerman has a lengthy criminal past involving the luring of kids into sex acts using alcohol, cigarettes and money, and that he is considered a serious risk to young girls.
He is a 69-year-old white man, five-foot-eight and 166 pounds, with grey hair, blue eyes and a tattoo of the letter 'A' on his right forearm.
His release conditions include having no contact with girls under 16, staying away from places where kids are likely to be and reporting all relationships with adult women to police.
Anyone who sees Akerman breaching those conditions is asked to call local police or 911.
