DNA leads to arrest in '86 Texas slaying/Ohio
New DNA evidence led to an arrest of an Ohio
man whose testimony in a 1986 Texas murder
case helped convict another man in the crime,
authorities said.
Gerald Pabst,55,was once a suspect in the sexual
assault and shooting death of Galua Crosby in
Garland, Texas authorities said.
But prosecutors dropped a murder charge against
Pabst, who passed a polygraph test and tesitfied
against Clay Chabot, who was convicted of murder
and sentenced to life in prison.
Pabst, who plead guilty to a misdemeanor theft for
the items taken from Crosbys house.
Pabst was arrested Monday at a bar in Geneva-on-
the-lake, about 50 miles east of Cleveland, according
to Attorney General Mark Dann.
He was extradited to Dallas County where he'll face
perjury charges, Dann said.
Chabot had requested a post-conviction DNA test
through the Innocence Project, which works to free
people falsely imprisoned. The results came back in
June and matched Pabst, who moved to Ohio in the
mid-1990's, Dann said.
Authorities did not describe the DNA evidence used to
make the arrest.
Dallas prosecutors are still determining if the DNA
evidence exonerates Chabot.
