LYONS, Colo. -- Colorado Division of Wildlife officers were called to a school near Boulder on Tuesday to deal with a drunk and disorderly, bear.
The wobbly bear was spotted in a neighborhood in Lyons, near Boulder, and she was having a hard time walking. Officers said the bear was probably drunk from eating fermented apples. They said this is the time of year the bears eat constantly to store fat for their winter hibernation.
"You know they tend to eat a lot when an opportunity presents itself. It found itself a nice apple tree or plum tree. They are eating 20,000 calories a day this time of year," said Claire Solohub, Colorado Division Of Wildlife.
The bear was near Lyons Elementary School as the students were arriving for class, so they were rushed into the school gym and kept there as a precaution.
Officers used a bean bag gun to stun the bear and then tranquilized her. She will be tagged and returned to the wild after she has slept it off.
