Elizabeth Monika Hunter August3, 2009Greetings:
First, I would like to thank everyone for the enormous support I have received during this difficult time.
My name is Renee D. Jennings. I am the CEO of R. Media Group and resident of Brooklyn, NY. I have a 15 year old sister named, Elizabeth Monika Hunter, but she goes by Monika. My sister was visiting at my grandmother's home in Capitol Heights, MD for the past month and a half. In the wee hours of the morning on Monday, August 3, 2009, we suspect about midnight, she ran away and has not been seen since. She packed all her clothes that were at my grandmother's house and left.
Monika is 15 years old, African American, about 5'6 in height and dark brown skin (see attached pic). She is from Fredericksburg, VA. We suspect she may be in the Maryland, DC or Virginia area but at this point she could be anywhere. I have contacted Prince George's County Police Department (Palmer Park Precinct) and been given the run around by the officers there.
I finally spoke to Officer Sprigg who was kind but hit me with the harsh reality. He informed me that since my sister was above 12 years old and not abducted or has any mental illnesses, they could not issue an Amber Alert. I stressed to him that my sister doesn't know anyone in this neighborhood and the fact that Capitol Heights is notorious for crime & violence. He sympathized but said unfortunately all they could do was take the missing persons report, as an officer did at my grandmother's home, and then it is processed into a system. Once in that system if someone in the community reports strange activity or reports a girl who looks suspicious or lost, they will know she is a missing person once identified.
My response to this was, "In that neighborhood, no one is going to report a girl wandering around when that is pretty common in that section of town." He agreed but said unfortunately this is how the system works and said the case would be given to a detective. It is at that detective's discretion what he will do with that case. He did inform me that these cases are not critical nor does it become essential in finding the missing person as soon as possible. ARE U KIDDING ME???? THIS IS A MINOR!!!!!
The detective who is assigned to missing persons is Detective Vessels (301) 772-4492 so another officer told me. I have called and left a message since 11 AM and received no returned phone call. The case number my family was given is Case# 09-215-0405. Please call and leave messages begging this detective to help find Monika Hunter. I have witnessed so many cases like this and seen the child turn up dead weeks,, months, or years later. I do not want to bury my sister.
My sister has so much potential and though she is going through behavioral issues, I am not going to give up on her. You can also call the main precinct 301-772-4901 and demand a search for my sister. No child should become a statistic! An injustice like this for one child is an injustice for us all. Please help find Monika Hunter! If you see her or know of her whereabouts, please contact me at 646-705-5712 or email me at
reneejennings@rmediagroup.com. God bless you! Please help our brown babies because it seems like no one wants to help us.
Warmest regards,
