Email Example For Nevada's Amber Alert System
Dear Governor Kenny Guinn: I am writing to you because I am deeply concerned about your Amber Alert System and how it is intended to work. I am part of a group Nationwide that posts information on current and past missing persons. While searching your state I noticed that you do have a section for local Missing Children Alerts, but is there also a section for National Alerts? In addition, I found that there is no section for abducted/endangered or other missing persons press releases or Alerts. I noticed a link to sign up for wireless alerts, but is there also a way to sign up for e-mail alerts as well? I understand there are Radio and Television Alerts but what about the internet? If a person isn’t watching Television or listening to the radio these alerts are missed, and precious seconds are subsequently wasted. My concern is largely due to a missing child case that was only very recently brought to my attention. As I'm sure you are well aware, 4 year old Erik Buran was kidnapped on April 21, 2005, by his non-custodial mother and her boyfriend. It is my understanding that the mother has mental problems and has had several arrests for violent behavior. The boyfriend was under investigation for abusing Erik at the time of the abduction. They fled in a motor home on April 25, 2005 and have not been seen or heard from since. A family Court Judge ruled that Erik is at risk for "immediate harm" and a felony kidnapping warrant is issued for the mother. Yet, NO AMBER ALERT WAS EVER SOUNDED! Nevada's Amber Alert website states that the "Amber Alert is not intended for cases involving runaways or parental adbuctions, except in life-threatening situations". To me, this appears to be an extremely life threatening and dangerous situation for this little 4 year old boy who has been gone now for 6 months. Your Amber Alert System has failed this little boy miserably. Now all we can do is hope that by some miracle he will come home. Another recent case that comes to mind is the case of 19 month old Aliyah Starling Myrick in Ohio. The Amber Alert was issued about six hours after the initial call came in. And no one in our network received that alert because their System is also flawed. She was murdered and left in a park to be found the next day by a passerby. These children are defenseless, they rely on US, and we are letting them down way too often. Having an Amber Alert Plan in place is wonderful, but if it's not used properly then why even have it at all? All of these flaws, nationwide, are doing an injustice to the very children it is intended to help. Too many of our children are being murdered because valuable information is not being given out or in a timely manner. I hope you will look into this complaint seriously and remedy the situation. Don’t let another small voice be silenced because of lack of vital information. Thank you for your time sir.
