EMCOR GROUP INC. ANNOUNCES SPONSORSHIP OF THE NATIONAL CENTER FOR MISSING & EXPLOITED CHILDREN’S CODE ADAM PROGRAM
Initiative Further Expands EMCOR-NCMEC Partnership To Help Find Missing Children
NORWALK, CONNECTICUT – August 22, 2006 — EMCOR Group, Inc. (NYSE: EME), a Fortune 500® leader in mechanical and electrical construction, energy infrastructure and facilities services for a diverse range of businesses globally, has become corporate sponsor of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children’s® (NCMEC) Code Adam program, further expanding the Company’s efforts in to help find missing children.
Code Adam, one of the country’s largest child-safety programs, is a nationwide initiative named in the memory of Adam Walsh who, at the age of six, was abducted from a department store 25 years ago. Originally developed by Wal-Mart associates, Code Adam is activated when a child is first reported missing within a facility and prior to the arrival of law enforcement personnel. Employees of participating businesses, who are trained in Code Adam procedures, are able to respond quickly and effectively if an abduction occurs in their establishment. EMCOR is sponsoring Code Adam with the hope of getting as many stores, amusement parks, museums, and other public facilities as possible to adopt the program as their missing child protocol.
“We are exceedingly proud to be the sponsor of such an extraordinary initiative,” said Frank T. MacInnis, Chairman and CEO of EMCOR. “Our relationship with NCMEC is very special to all of us at EMCOR. By expanding our teamwork even further, through support of the Code Adam program, our intent is to make an even greater impact nationwide in helping find missing children.”
Last year EMCOR launched “Taking KidSafety to the Street®,” a major, three-pronged national initiative that is an in-the-buildings and on-the-streets program designed to help find missing children across the country and promote child safety. Under this innovative program, EMCOR’s national fleet of more than 6,000 service vehicles display NCMEC’s posters of missing children, serving as moving billboards to increase public awareness of children reported as missing. Because EMCOR’s vehicles move daily from its 130 offices, to over 12,500 job sites and facilities, frequented by millions of people, in thousands of communities throughout the U.S., it is EMCOR’s hope that this effort will exponentially increase the chances of finding missing children. Tailored to six different geographic zones encompassing the entire U.S., the posters are creatively designed for maximum visibility and include NCMEC’s 24-hour hotline number – 1-800-THE-LOST – that can be called with information about a missing child.
The second prong of EMCOR’s program goes inside buildings and involves EMCOR’s more than 2,000 facilities services personnel---who maintain thousands of public and private facilities across the country, many of which are visited by or have particular attraction for children---being trained to implement Code Adam. The third prong of its unique program is an on-line initiative at
www.emcorgroup.com/kidsafety, a specially created, online child safety education forum.
“EMCOR has been fantastic to partner with on all of these initiatives, and we’re very pleased that they are even further expanding their support of NCMEC’s mission through their sponsorship of Code Adam,” said Ernie Allen, president and CEO of NCMEC. “By continuing to educate and train organizations in what they can do to help prevent child abductions, we truly can help keep our families safer.”
