Shelter for Abused Women Too Full
A local shelter for domestic violence victims is turning women away because it`s overcrowded. As many as 28 woman and children are running away from abusive situations on any given day in Erie.
Sometimes there`s nowhere for them to go.
SafeNet officials say they had to turn away 120 battered women and children because there wasn`t enough room in the organization`s shelter.
Now, the shelter is launching a $2 million fundraising campaign to renovate the shelter and build an adjacent annex.
SafeNet says that will give each person overnight accommodations and personal privacy they need to heal.
