WALK AWAY Author: News Channel Staff 10/8/07 Missoula police said 24-year-old Shawn Michael Madman walked away from a pre-release center last night and hasn't been seen since. Madman is a convicted violent sex offender, serving a 10-year sentence. Missoula authorities said he called to check in around 9:45p.m. from the town pump in Bonner but he is still on the loose. Police said Madman is a Native American male, around 5 feet 9 inches tall with a slender build. He has short black hair, a goatee, mustache and brown eyes. He also has a two-inch scar on his head and a tattoo on his right calf. A VIOLENT SEX OFFENDER IS STILL ON THE LOOSE TONIGHT Author: Kasey Joyce 10/9/07 Shawn Michael Madman had been serving a 10 year sentence at Missoula's pre release center, on a sexual assault conviction from 2003 but Sunday, he escaped and he's been on the loose ever since. Madman's not the only inmate at large tonight. In the last three weeks, seven people have walked away from pre-release centers across the state. So far, authorities have only caught three. State Pre-Release Unit Manager Kerry Pribnow said typically they have about 40 walk-aways per year and they catch about 99-percent of them. Pribnow said they're especially concerned about Madman because he has a history of violent sexual offenses. If he's caught, he'll spend an extra two to ten years behind bars for felony escape. madman on the loose Missoula Officials Search for Sexual Offender Officials in Missoula are looking for a sexual offender who fled the Missoula Pre-Release Center Sunday, KPAX is reporting. Shawn Michael Madman, 24, walked away from his job site at around 8:00 p.m. and then failed to return to the facility. He was last heard from when he called the Pre-Release Center from the Bonner Town Pump at around 9:45 p.m. Madman is described as being a Native American male, 5'9" tall, weighing 150 pounds with short black hair, brown eyes, a mustache and goatee. He has a 2" scar on his head and a tattoo on his right calf. Madman is serving a 10-year sentence in the custody of the Department of Corrections in Missoula after being convicted of a sexual assault which took place in Cascade County in 2003.
