Former Perry County Deputy Indicted
A former Perry County Sheriffs
Office deputy was indicted Friday
on suspicion of helping a sex offender
avoid registering.
Eric e Newlon,41,of Newark, reportedly
knew another former deputy had moved
to Licking County and did not inform any
one.
Mark A Riggs,46,of Pataskala, who also is
a former deputy, moved to Licking County
more then 6 years ago and failed to register
his new address.
Newlon was the deputy who handeled Sexual
Offenders Registery for Perry County.
He reportedly told Riggs to tell anyone who
might ask that he was visiting Licking County.
Bond hearings that CASOO SAFE ZONE will be
attending are scheduled for May21, 2007 and
May29, 2007 for both men.
Riggs was convicted in a 1997 case that involved
a female minor. He was convicted of Corruption
of a minor.
Riggs is required by law to register in any county
he lives in, works in, or attends school at.
From Jan.1, 2001 to October.25,2006 Riggs did
reportedly fail to register in Licking County.
Riggs is charged with a third degree felony and
Newlon is charged with a fourth degree felony
as a result of the investigation.
