Galion man faces attempt charges following burning
John J. Peterson remains in jail without bail, and faces more charges after burning his own mother. The complaint reads: John J. Peterson at Galion, Ohio on or about the 6th day of September did purposely engage in conduct which if successful would constitute or result in the offense of murder. Attempted Murder in violation of Ohio Revised Code Section 2923.02/2303.02, a felony of the first degree. Patricia McElhatten, 54, remains in critical but stable condition at COSUMC. Police say a flammable substance was dumped on her and ignited. No other information has been released at this time.
