CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Police Department is taking a fresh look at three unsolved murder cases and an anonymous donor is now chipping in to help find one of the killers, NewsChannel5 reported.
Yvonne Pointer's daughter Gloria died in a run-down building on East 105th Street 22 years ago.
The 14-year-old was walking to school on a cold and snowy day when someone grabbed her, raped her and beat her to death with a metal pipe.
Many questions still haunt her mother.
"Was she afraid? Did she call me as her mother or was she screaming? You don't know," Pointer said.
Pointer said an anonymous donor is offering $10,000 to find Gloria's killer and Cleveland detectives plan to re-examine the murder as part of a cold case grant.
"We never close a case. The case is always open. We owe that hope obviously to the families," said Cleveland police Commander Ed Tomba.
Tomba said the grant money will also focus on two other unsolved murders, the 2002 death of community activist Frances Jones, who was shot to death in her driveway, and the 2004 slaying of Naomi Falls, who was repeatedly stabbed.
All of the cases have possible DNA evidence.
"It's basically for the legwork and to really look into the cases, to reinterview people, take a fresh look at the case, see if something was missed," said Tomba.
This brings hope to Pointer that one day she will know who took her daughter's life.
Anyone with information about any of these unsolved murders can call Crime Stoppers at 216-252-7463.
