This has NOTHING to do with Haleigh's Disappearance. Just another crazy Bondsman looking for glory Man Investigating Haleigh Case Arrested Deputies Say William Staubs Illegally Detained Man POSTED: Friday, May 22, 2009 UPDATED: 1:31 pm EDT May 22, 2009 A South Florida bail bondsman who has been investigating the disappearance of 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings was arrested by the Putnam County Sheriff's Office. William Staubs, 51, turned himself in Friday morning on charges of false imprisonment. Putnam County Lt. Johnny Greenwood said Staubs is accused of illegally detaining 55-year-old William Snodgrass, a Putnam County man who was free on bail after a sex abuse arrest. Greenwood said Staubs drove up to Snodgrass' house on March 20, turned on a siren and called Snodgrass out. Putnam County deputies said Snodgrass told Staubs that his bond was revoked, Staubs threw Snodgrass to the ground, handcuffed him and forced him into a vehicle. Putnam County Sheriff's Office booking photo of William Staubs After driving a short distance and making several telephone calls, Staubs reportedly turned around, drove Snodgrass back to his residence and released him. Staubs is being held on $5,004 bond. Deputies told Channel 4 that Staubs had previously bonded a Putnam County woman arrested on drug charges out of jail a few weeks ago, then had her bond revoked, took her to jail and called an Ocala radio station with a tip that a person of interest in the Haleigh Cummings case had been arrested. Haleigh was reported missing Feb. 10 from the home in Satsuma where she lived with her father, younger brother and her father's girlfriend. Anyone with information that could help solve Haleigh's case is asked to call Crimestoppers at 888-277-TIPS. http://www.news4jax.com/news/19538359/detail.html

Haleigh Cummings HQ Moving to Baker County Posted By: Dave Wax Posted By: Patricia Jimenez Created: 6/3/2009 11:32:51 AM Updated: 6/3/2009 2:25:47 PM SATSUMA, FL -- Since the five-year-old girl disappeared nearly four months ago, the Haleighbug building has been the central point in the search. It's moving out of the town from which Haleigh Cummings disappeared to a place closer to her mother, Crystal Sheffield. The Haleighbug Foundation was set up in downtown Satsuma back in early May to coordinate such things as donations, t-shirts, and public awareness of the missing girl and the search effort. The foundation now will be closer to Crystal Sheffield's home in Baker County. Haleigh disappeared from her home on February 10. Despite more than 4,000 leads, the search has turned up no trace of her. http://www.firstcoastnews.com/news/local/news-article.aspx?storyid=139193&provider=rss

Life for Haleigh’s family moves back toward ‘normalcy’ Written by Joel Addington Thursday, 04 June 2009 Almost five months after Haleigh Cummings disappeared from her father’s Satsuma, FL residence, the lives of her mother Crystal Sheffield and maternal grandmother Marie Griffis, both of Glen St. Mary, have returned to a semblance of normalcy. New leads in the missing 5-year-old’s case, which police have been treating as an abduction, have all but dried up. The wave of national and worldwide media attention that descended on the small Putnam County community as the February 10 tragedy unfolded has subsided, and in late April Ms. Sheffield joined her family by returning to Baker County. “The stress down there was just a little too much for her,” said Ms. Griffis, adding that her daughter now lives on her property off Mud Lake Road. “Now that we’re home, we’re doing good,” she said. “Besides Haleigh being missing, everything’s gone back to normal as far as our daily routines.” For Ms. Griffis that meant returning to her job as a school bus driver for the remainder of the school year. Ms. Sheffield returned to her duties as a housewife and mother to a 1-year-old daughter. Ms. Griffis — who is now raising a 10-year-old girl — said having her eldest daughter close makes things easier for everyone. “That way if they need to go somewhere, the kids can stay outside to play. We can each help each other with the children,” she said. Getting back to living their everyday lives, however, doesn’t mean giving up hope for Haleigh’s return. “I know there’s people here in Baker County that know people in Putnam. If anybody sees or hears anything, please report it to the proper authorities, especially if they see Haleigh,” said Ms. Griffis. Ms. Sheffield’s MySpace.com Web site displays a personal message to her daughter as well: “Haleigh mommy loves you to the moon and stars and back!!!!! I will be waiting on you till the day you come home...” Ms. Griffis said she expected the spotlight on Haleigh’s case to diminish after fresh tips began tapering off. She said the Putnman County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that’s occurred about two weeks ago. “They said they were basically at a standstill, but that any new lead they get in, they’ll check it out,” she said. While the lack of new leads and media coverage may seem like negative developments in the hunt for Haleigh, Ms. Griffis has been told that’s not necessarily the case. “ are on this one path and it’s been the same path since they began,” she said. “They won’t reveal what that is, but every time they get something new, they have to get off that path.” The family has also been advised by law enforcement to keep a low profile, in hopes that someone involved with the disappearance may slip up and talk about it. “They figure maybe if it dies down, whoever did this will take more of a free reign, mingling and talking. They know that’s what it’s going to take to bust this case — somebody saying something,” explained Ms. Griffis. Despite that direction, she wants to keep Haleigh’s story in public view. “I would rather have the media keep it out there because I don’t know where Haleigh is,” Ms. Griffis said. “We’re hoping and praying to God she’s still alive, but we don’t know one way or another. If she’s been moved out of state, they need to get her story out there.” The sheriff’s department had been communicating to Haleigh’s maternal family mainly through Ms. Sheffield’s attorney until recently. “We just wanted to talk to them ourselves instead of getting it secondhand, so we could hear it come out of their lips,” said Ms. Griffis. “They told us under no circumstances will they let this go. Someone will remain working this case. They still got a good-size staff working on it. But they told us they’re not letting this go.” Last Updated ( Thursday, 04 June 2009 ) http://bakercountypress.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2288&Itemid=79

Haleigh search resumes By Kristin Chambers Published: Saturday, June 27, 2009 12:39 AM EDT The search for Haleigh Cummings resumed Friday on a farm owned by her mother's family. Forty officers from five different agencies scoured property in Baker County looking for the blond-haired Satsuma child missing since February. Authorities dug up an animal grave and checked ponds for the child's remains. The property is owned by the family of Crystal Sheffield, Haleigh's mother, and was requested by the family, said Kim Picazio, who is Sheffield's lawyer. * "We requested that they came out and search thoroughly," Picazio said. "It's very important to this family to clear their name and to make sure their name and to make sure their property was free of suspicion." The family told authorities of dead animals buried on the property before the search began. "We did an interview with some family members and they disclosed they buried some animals out here during the time of the Haleigh investigation, so we thought we should come out here and search the property over just to verify that these were just dead animals and nothing else," said Capt. Dominic Piscitello, chief of Putnam County's Major Crimes Unit. Approximately 45-50 acres of property were searched, Piscitello said. The body of a horse buried on the property was excavated and a forensic anthropologist confirmed no human remains were there. "We found nothing that would indicate that Haleigh was here or has been here," Piscitello said. Picazio said the area of Sheffield's grandfather's home had been searched, but not the area surrounding the Sheffield property. In addition to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, agencies involved in Friday's search include the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, Baker County Sheriff's Office and dogs trained to locate cadavers. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office dive team additionally searched ponds on the property, with nothing found. No other searches are planned, Piscitello said. The kindergartner was reported missing at 3:27 a.m. on Feb. 10 by Misty Croslin, who is now married to Haleigh's father, Ronald Cummings. She said she had put Haleigh and Ronald Junior, Haleigh's little brother, to bed at 10 p.m., and awoke at 3 a.m. to find Haleigh gone. A national Amber Alert was issued for Haleigh at 8 a.m. the same day, and remains in effect. Divers, ground searchers, bloodhounds and helicopters scoured the area around Satsuma throughout the week for the little girl, and horseback riders searched deep wooded areas, but nothing was found. Authorities said they believed she was abducted, since the child is afraid of the dark and does not wander off alone. More than 4,000 tips have been received by law enforcement, said Lt. Johnny Greenfield, a spokesman for the Putnam County Sheriff's Office. Authorities are hoping to receive information that will enable them to locate the little girl. "The sheriff's office will follow up on any piece of information given," Piscitello said. "No piece of information is too small." To report tips, please call Crime Stoppers at (888) 277-8477. kchambers@palatkadailynews.com http://www.palatkadailynews.com/articles/2009/06/28/news/news01.txt

CBS show questions Haleigh's family By Kristin Chambers Published: Thursday, August 20, 2009 2:01 AM EDT In a Wednesday morning interview with CBS's "The Early Show," Teresa Neves, Haleigh Cummings' paternal grandmother, said she does not think 17-year-old Misty Croslin had a part in her granddaughter's disappearance. "I hope she did not," Neves told CBS reporter Jeff Glor. Neves was unsure if a different story remains untold by Croslin, who married Neves' son and Haleigh's father, Ronald Cummings, a month after the child vanished. "I don't know that there is anything I haven't heard," Neves said. "I don't know what they've heard. It's hard for me to say." Early in the year, Croslin told the NBC's "The Today Show" Haleigh was missing when she awoke after 3 a.m. Investigators say the 17-year-old failed to provide a detailed account of what happened between 10 p.m. - when she said she fell asleep next to Haleigh - and the time she awoke to discover the child missing. Physical evidence of the scene also contradicts what she told police, they have said. Attorney Mark NeJame accompanied Neves during the interview, which was filmed in Putnam County. "There are certain areas with a large question mark hovering over them," NeJame said. "I think that is the focus of the investigation. We have been brought on to assist with that by bringing renewed attention to the investigation because there are unanswered questions." He added, "I think the police are quite appropriate in trying to piece together that puzzle. What happened in that five hours and where's Haleigh?" Neves continues to believe Haleigh is alive. "I do, I believe God will bring her home, and I believe without faith and hope, you don't have anything to cling to," she said. A search for Haleigh is set to resume in four to six weeks by EquuSearch, a Texas-based search group. Haleigh was discovered missing at 3:27 a.m. on Feb. 10, and no sign of the 6-year-old has been found. kchambers@palatkadailynews.com http://palatkadailynews.com/articles/2009/08/20/news/news01.txt

Investigators Narrow Focus In Haleigh Search Haleigh's Birthday Marked With Balloon Release POSTED: 7:08 pm EDT August 16, 2009 UPDATED: 10:46 am EDT August 18, 2009 SATSUMA, Fla. -- Investigators in Putnam County marked the sixth birthday of Haleigh Cummings with a news release stating they believe the missing girl was likely kidnapped by someone she knew. Putnam County Sheriff's Office Lt. Johnny Greenwood said evidence and the work of investigators have minimized the likelihood that Haleigh's disappearance is the work of a stranger. Greenwood said the missing girl's biological parents, Ronald Cummings and Crystal Sheffield, are not considered suspects in the case, but Cummings' current wife, Misty Croslin-Cummings, has not been cleared. "Investigators believe that Misty Croslin-Cummings continues to hold important answers in the case," the news release stated. "She has failed to provide any sort of detailed accounting of the hours during the late evening and early morning of Haleigh's disappearance." Greenwood said physical evidence found at the Cummings' home contradicted Croslin-Cummings' account of her evening activities. Authorities asked anyone with direct knowledge of her activities around the time of Haleigh's disappearance to contact the Putnam County Sheriff's Office at 386-329-0800. Haleigh Remembered On 6th Birthday The thought of Haleigh's sixth birthday transformed her grandmother's face into a portrait of anguish. "You can't celebrate a birthday when she's not here," grandmother Teresa Neves said. Haleigh vanished from her bed on a cold February morning. "I can definitely say she has not been forgotten," Greenwood said. The news release from the Putnam County Sheriff's Office stated that investigators don't believe a stranger kidnapped Haleigh, but they are looking for more information from Croslin-Cummings. Haleigh disappeared on her watch. "All it's going to take is one small piece of information. Like I said, somebody out there knows what happened," Greenwood said. Countless searches have been completed since Haleigh's disappearance. and 4,000 leads have been received by authorities. Some of them have taken investigators as far away as Tennessee. And there were the unexpected events like when Haleigh's father proposed to his 16-year-old girlfriend. A recent family feud ended with him being jailed. On Haleigh's birthday, her father and his new wife were together, but six months have passed, and the girl remains missing. Investigators said they believe Haleigh could still be alive, and they have no evidence to believe otherwise. Greenwood said they're waiting for new leads and reworking old ones. "We've actually got an agent with the (Florida Department of Law Enforcement) right now who is assigned to us to go back through tips, just reviewing to see if there's any tip that might not have been investigated," Greenwood said. Balloons Released With Fliers Inside On her birthday, Haleigh's family didn't miss the chance to get her face back out in the public. They sponsored a nationwide balloon release, with fliers containing her information. "When they take it out of the balloon, or when it falls, they'll look at it, and possibly, hopefully, if they've seen Haleigh, they'll recognize her and call law enforcement," great-grandmother Annette Sykes said. Haleigh's family keeps reminders of her everywhere. Shrines contain pictures, pieces of her little-girl makeup and presents she has never opened. And there's pain. "It just hurts, and it's a lot of pain. You get up every day, praying this is the day she comes home, and you go to bed praying," Neves said. Haleigh's family can't forget, but their biggest fear is that the rest of the world will. More Searches Planned Orlando attorney Make NeJame and Texas EquuSearch founder Tim Miller also announced they're teaming up to search for Haleigh. Search For Haleigh Miller said the search will take place in four to six weeks, when he believes weather conditions and vegetation will be more conducive to finding the girl. The search has spanned thousands of acres of land to date, including all of the area near the Cummings' home. Aerial and underwater searches have also been conducted. Miller said about 50 EquuSearch members and volunteers will conduct the search. The group has searched for the girl previously and also searched for Caylee Anthony. http://www.wesh.com/news/20422695/detail.html

Cape Cod couple questioned in Haleigh Cummings case Contributor: Cary Williams Email: cwilliams@abcactionnews.com Last Update: 10:34 am SATSUMA, FL -- A Cape Cod couple has been questioned in the Haleigh Cummings case. The 5-year-old north Florida girl disappeared from her father's mobile home in February. Putnam County Sheriff's Spokesman Lt. Johnny Greenwood told the Boston Herald on Monday that police interviewed Timothy Croslin and his wife on Saturday, but would not say why. A Putnam County Sheriff's statement released today said investigators interviewed Croslin and his wife, but not about an alleged sighting of Haleigh Cummings in a Massachusetts store. The report said no further information would be immediately released. Croslin's sister, Misty Croslin, was the last person to see Haleigh Cummings. She had been baby-sitting the Haleigh on February 10 at her father's home. Misty told investigators she awoke and noticed a light on. The back door was propped open with a brick and Haleigh was missing. Despite extensive searches and a $35,000 reward, she has not been found. Police have said they don't think Misty Croslin has been straight with them, but they have not named any suspects. http://www.abcactionnews.com/news/local/story/Cape-Cod-couple-questioned-in-Haleigh-Cummings/_FRbzpcSuU2b0_H_A0WJlA.cspx?rss=794

Misty Croslin's Brother Says She Wasn't Home Night of Haleigh's Kidnapping Written by JJ on Sep-23-09 5:26pm Misty Croslin might not have been home the night Haleigh Cummings went missing, says her brother. Hank "Tommy" Croslin, Jr., has been in jail since mid-September for stealing a handgun from his parents' neighbors. And he recently told investigators an account of Haleigh's disappearance that contradicts his sister's. The night Haleigh went missing, Hank told police that her father, Ronald Cummings, tried to reach Misty more than 20 times by phone before calling him. Ronald asked Hank to go to the house to make sure everything was OK, but Hank says when he arrived at 9:45 p.m., the lights were out and no one was home. According to the story Misty has told police, she was home all evening, and she awoke around 3 a.m. to find that Haleigh was not in her bed and that the back door was propped open. Rick Ryan, the chief of staff of the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, has verified that their stories don't match up. "What Hank Croslin told us is contrary to what Misty told us," Ryan told the Gainsville Sun. To make matters worse, Misty Croslin Cummings has now left town. While Nancy Grace suggested on CNN Tuesday evening that Croslin had skipped town to avoid law enforcement, her lawyer says she's "clearing her head." http://www.zimbio.com/Haleigh+Cummings/articles/KxtL-fW9t2T/Misty+Croslin+Brother+Says+Wasn+t+Home+Night

Jailhouse letter says woman asked by cops about possible Haleigh Cummings overdose Inmate denies being involved in girl's disappearance By Dana Treen Story updated at 5:58 PM on Thursday, Sep. 24, 2009 New speculation in the case of missing Haleigh Cummings centers on a jailhouse letter from an acquaintance of Misty Cummings saying she was questioned by police who were told the 5-year-old died from drugs she took during a party. William "Cobra" Staubs, a private investigator and bounty hunter, provided a copy of the letter to the Times-Union. He said it's from 19-year-old Kristina Renee "Naynay" Prevatt, who was partying with Misty Cummings the weekend before Haleigh disappeared. Prevatt is in jail on several charges including drugs, smuggling contraband into jail and cyber-stalking and harassment. The allegations relayed in the letter are among the "many theories" investigators have checked, said Chief Deputy Rick Ryan of the Putnam County Sheriff's Office. "We have been in close contact with all the associates of Misty," he said. He said investigartors were not aware of a particular party mentioned where the 5-year-old may have ingested drugs. "If anybody knows about this so-called party, we would like to know," he said. "This group of folks were a party crowd." Staubs is an associate of a former lawyer in the case on Haleigh's mother's side. He once bailed Prevatt out of jail and returned her for breaking conditions of her release. The letter is to her boyfriend Donnie and is dated Sept. 18 and signed Love (a heart outline) Always Naynay. It states that she got interrogated again in the case and was told a friend of Donnie's wrote a sworn affidavit about what happened the night the 5-year-old disappeared. It said she was at a party with Misty, Haleigh, Junior (Haleigh's brother) and a male friend. It says Haleigh got into some Oxycontin and overdosed. The male friend put her in a black bag in Prevatt's car and they took her to a pond. Prevatt's car also was taken from the junkyard to search for evidence, the letter to Donnie said. Why would he make something like that up and put her in the middle of a homicide investigation, the letter asked in angrier terms. "You know I was with you that night!" Ryan said the Sheriff's Office located Prevatt's car for a search "weeks ago." Haleigh has been missing since Misty Cummings, 17, last saw her Feb. 9. Investigators recently drained a pond off Florida 19 but the Sheriff's Office said no evidence was found. The 29-year-old male friend, who has a history of drug arrests, was booked again Tuesday on charges of cocaine and marijuana possession. He was released on $1,500 bail. On the weekend before Haleigh disappeared during a night of partying and drugs, the male friend said he hooked up with Misty Cummings (then Misty Croslin) with the help of Prevatt after her fight with Haleigh's father, Ronald Cummings. Deputies look for Haleigh tipster who may have 'very helpful' information By Lise Fisher Staff writer Published: Friday, September 25, 2009 at 12:45 p.m. Last Modified: Friday, September 25, 2009 at 12:45 p.m. Video: http://link.brightcove.com/services/player/bcpid1213894020?bctid=42043690001 Deputies look for Haleigh tipster who may have 'very helpful' information The Putnam County Sheriff's Office is asking for help in identifying a woman who dropped off a letter earlier this week with a tip about the disappearance of Haleigh Cummings. The woman took the letter to the St. Augustine Record Wednesday afternoon. Addressed to the newspaper's associate editor, the typed letter had information about the child, who disappeared from her father's Satsuma home in February. The newspaper provided the letter to officers who have been following up the information. "Unfortunately the detectives need further clarification of the information and are hoping that someone will recognize the woman that delivered it," according to a statement from the Sheriff's Office. The newspaper describes the woman as a "blonde woman, wearing blue scrubs," who dropped the envelope off at 3 p.m., "then quickly left the building." The Sheriff's Office would not release the letter's contents. But, it reported, "if the information is true, it could be very helpful in solving the Haleigh Cummings case." Haleigh Cummings: Content of mystery letter revealed Theresa Collington 1 hr ago PUTNAM COUNTY, FL -- The Sheriff's Office has released more information about the mystery note that was dropped off last week regarding the Haleigh Cummings search. The note was dropped off by an unknown woman Wednesday at the St. Augustine Record. Detectives determined the note warranted further investigation, so they announced they wanted to speak with the woman who dropped it off. When she heard that through the media, the woman contacted detectives and they interviewed her. Her name has still not been released, and she said she was just dropping the note off for someone else. Today, detectives say the note contained information about a possible burial site for Haleigh, the girl who disappeared from her Satsuma home in February. Capt. Dick Schauland with the Putnam County Sheriff's Office says detectives followed up the tip, but found nothing, and they are still no closer to finding the girl. http://www.wtsp.com/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=114343&provider=rss

Latest Tip Not Haleigh Burial Site St. Augustine Tip Among 4,000 Checked Out By Putnam County Investigators POSTED: Monday, September 28, 2009 UPDATED: 1:48 pm EDT September 28, 2009 PALATKA, Fla. -- Putnam County investigators said they searched an area identified as Haleigh Cummings' grave in a letter dropped off at the St. Augustine Record last week, but the tip did not lead to the 6-year-old girl who has been missing for more than seven months. The letter, signed only with initials, was dropped off at the St. Augustine newspaper office last Wednesday afternoon. Associate Editor Richard Prior, who saw the letter, told Channel 4 the tip would lead investigators to Haleigh -- "if it's authentic." The woman who dropped off the letter came forward, but investigators said she told them she was the messenger for a man who claimed to be an FBI informant with special psychic abilities. Detectives were told the woman does not personally know the family or have any information about Haleigh's whereabouts. They would like to talk to the man who wrote the letter. The sheriff's office would discuss the location the letter claimed was a burial site. Schauland said the specific place the letter mentioned had been searched before, but they returned with cadaver dogs and found no trace of a body or a grave. "This tip, as have the other more than 4,000 received in this case, has thus far not led to the recovery of Haleigh," Schauland said Monday morning. Haleigh disappeared sometime the night of Feb. 9 or morning of Feb. 10 from Ronald Cummings' mobile home in Satsuma. She and her younger brother were being watched by Misty Croslin -- at the time Ronald's 17-year-old girlfriend -- while the father worked a night shift. An Amber Alert was issued the next day as investigators believed Haleigh was taken from the home. Investigators have given polygraph tests to everyone who had contact with Haleigh in the days before she disappeared and have followed leads throughout Florida and beyond, but they said they still don't know what happened to Haleigh. Anyone who has any information about what happened to Haleigh is asked to call Crimestoppers at 888-277-8477. http://www.news4jax.com/news/21137323/detail.html

Haleigh Cummings: Full content of mystery letter revealed Theresa Collington 6 hrs ago ST. AUGUSTINE, FL -- The letter dropped off at the St. Augustine Record by a mystery woman provided investigators with step by step instructions to find the grave of Haleigh Cummings. The St. Augustine Record, our news partner, has now published the entire contents of the letter it received last week. Investigators on Monday said the letter contained specific information about a site where Haleigh may be buried. The St. Augustine Record reports in today's edition just how specific: "Check the back of father's mobile home. From the right end of the mobile home extending out continue for 540 yards straight. At that point go north 12 yards. Dig 2-3 feet, will strike metal covering an old well, check inside, black plastic garbage bag. Circumstances extend statewide and beyond." The typewritten letter, according to the St. Augustine Record, is signed by the initials "SAM." Investigators told First Coast News they searched the area but nothing came up. The Putnam County Sheriff's Office also said the area had been searched before. A woman dressed in what appeared to be blue hospital scrubs handed the letter to the receptionist at the St. Augustine Record on Sept. 23. The Putnam County Sheriff's Office said Monday the woman told investigators she worked as a messenger for an older man who had once been an FBI informant. The unidentified woman also told investigators the man had some "special abilities." Capt. Dick Schauland, a spokesman for the sheriff's office, wouldn't elaborate on whether those abilities meant "psychic abilities." "We have not talked to him," said Schauland. "We've asked her to bring him in. I don't know if she'll be able to or not." Haleigh Cummings has been missing since the night of Feb. 9. Misty Croslin-Cummings told detectives she put Haleigh to bed around 8 p.m. The teen wife of Haleigh's father said she woke up around 3 a.m. and noticed Haleigh had disappeared.
