Thomasville Police Investigate Finding Of Human Remains POSTED: 11:00 am EDT October 10, 2006 UPDATED: 11:32 am EDT October 10, 2006 THOMASVILLE, N.C. -- Police on Tuesday continued to investigate the discovery of a body not far from a Thomasville Furniture Industries plant. An employee of Mid-State Industries called authorities Monday afternoon and reported a suspicious bag near a parking lot on Carmalt Street. Officers said they found "what appeared to be remains of a person wrapped in a plastic bag and covered with carpet material." The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation was called in to assist. Authorities said they don't know the gender or name of the person. The remains were sent to the Medical Examiner's Office in Chapel Hill. Thomasville Police Investigate Human Remains POSTED: 11:00 am EDT October 10, 2006 UPDATED: 8:38 am EDT October 11, 2006 THOMASVILLE, N.C. -- Police on Tuesday continued to investigate the discovery of a woman's body near a parking lot. Neighbors in the area said they were concerned that the body was found so close to their homes. Investigators Tuesday afternoon said that the woman had brown hair and was wearing a purple sweater. Her age wasn't known. An employee of Mid-State Industries called authorities Monday afternoon and reported a suspicious bag near a parking lot on Carmalt Street. Officers said they found "what appeared to be remains of a person wrapped in a plastic bag and covered with carpet material." The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation was called in to assist. The remains were sent to the Medical Examiner's Office in Chapel Hill. Keith Peters, who has 10 children, said his kids were the first thing he thought about when hearing the news. "Shock and concern," parent Keith Peters told WXII 12's Melissa Marsh. "It's too close for comfort." The incident also hit too close to home for Karen Brown, who has lived in the neighborhood for more than 20 years but is ready to get out. "Before you could go down my street and we had nice neighbors and it was older folks, some younger," she said. "But now you go down the street and you can find every form of drugs that there is, and it's pitiful." Meanwhile, the victim's close friend is in mourning. Cynthia Bullock Wingard, 40, was identified by the use of fingerprints, according to investigators. An employee of Mid-State Industries called authorities Monday afternoon and reported a suspicious bag near a parking lot on Carmalt Street. Officers said they found "what appeared to be remains of a person wrapped in a plastic bag and covered with carpet material." The news saddened Wingard's friend, Sonya Davis. "If I needed something, she would get it for me," she told WXII 12's Damany Lewis. "If she needed something, I would get it for her." Police said they have no suspects. "We are still wide open in this investigation, going full throttle ahead, asking the public for help," said Detective Tim Clark.
