WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE, Ohio -- New details were uncovered about the relationship between a husband and wife who were killed in a murder-suicide on Wednesday morning.
A week before she was killed, Lori Bailey filed a civil protection order, claiming that her husband, John, had repeatedly threatened to kill her, NBC 4's Elizabeth Scarborough reported.
According to court records, Lori Bailey claimed he had said things like, "Enjoy your pretty little smile while you still have it."
"I've done what I've had to do to keep him at bay and on an even keel with his temperament," Lori Bailey had told a judge.
Two days before filing the order, Lori Bailey told a Fayette County judge that she thought John Bailey had tried to poison her by crushing up pills and mixing it in her food.
"He has no idea I know there was anything in the potatoes," she said.
The protection order was issued on Oct. 25, but it didn't work, Scarborough. On the morning of Oct. 27, John Bailey was arrested in connection with violating the protection order and ransacking her house.
But, John Bailey was released on bail within three hours.
"Does he have firearms at the house?" the judge asked Lori Bailey.
"Oh, yeah," she responded.
The sheriff said he seized firearms from the house, but John Bailey was able to get another one.
Police said John Bailey abducted Lori after she dropped her children off at a baby sitter's house and took her to a barn at a home where the couple once lived.
Investigators said John Bailey shot and killed Lori and then fatally shot himself.
Lori Bailey had told the judge that John had threatened to take his own life before.
"I asked if he has a plan. He said no. I think he's just joking. But he'll find out how serious," she said. "I'll found out how serious he really is."
Investigators said they are still awaiting tests from the mashed potatoes Lori Bailey claimed were poisoned.
