Investigation ongoing at Lake Lahontan By Merry Thomas • Fallon Star Press • August 29, 2008 No foul play is suspected regarding the body found last week in the car submerged in Lake Lahontan, according to Lt. David Jones of the Nevada Division of Parks and Recreation, which oversees state park law enforcement. "The autopsy is done and there is no indication of foul play," Jones said. "But we need positive identification." Jones said they tracked down a possible victim through missing persons reports but the condition of the body was such that family members would not have been able to identify him. "It typically takes several weeks to process DNA samples," he explained. The Washoe County crime laboratory will be working on this case, which Jones estimated would take three to four weeks because of the lab's heavy caseload. "The car and body have been submerged for several months and we have a pretty good idea of who it might be," Jones said. "But if the man found in the car is not the owner, investigators will have to start from scratch."
