Husband to 911: Message Written in Blood Left Near Wife's Body Posted: Today at 7:35 a.m. Updated: 18 minutes ago Wendell — A man who found his wife dead at their Wendell home early Tuesday morning told 911 that a threat to him was written in blood near her body. WRAL has obtained the 911 call made by Jakiem Wilson Tuesday morning. According to the call, Wilson returned home early Tuesday morning to his house in the Eagles Crossing subdivision to find his wife, Nneka, dead. Wilson told the 911 operator that a message said, "Your (expletive) is dead. You're next." He also said that the back door of the house had been kicked in. "We're treating it as a homicide," said Chief Richard Johnson with the sheriff's office. "We're just starting the investigation. Information is sketchy right now." Investigators have not said how Nneka Wilson died. Two children were also found unharmed inside the house, authorities said. Neighbors of the family are stunned by the death. "I'm still devastated. I just cannot believe it. I don't personally know the people. I know the area," neighbor Gwen Spivey said. "It's very quiet, never been a whole lot of trouble. I've been here all my life, there's never been any trouble hardly." Investigators said Jakiem Wilson is cooperating fully with them. They also said the children are safe. They are asking anyone with information to please call the Wake County Sheriff's Office at 919-856-6900. Husband Arrested in Connection With Wife's Slaying Posted: Feb. 13 7:35 a.m. Updated: Today at 12:11 a.m. Wendell — A man who said he found his wife dead inside their Wendell home early Tuesday morning has been arrested and will be charged in her death. Jakiem Lance Wilson, 22, was taken into custody late Tuesday and was expected to be charged with first-degree murder in connection with Nneka Wilson, 24, by early Wednesday. Wilson has a criminal record, primarily on drug charges. Authorities would not say what led them to Wilson, who they said had been cooperating throughout the course of their investigation. Early Tuesday evening, they found items they believe were involved in the crime near behind an abandoned service station at the corner of Martin Pond Road and Eagle Rock Road. Investigators would not say what the items were but did say they were in the house before the crime. Detectives were also speaking with other individuals, and two more arrests could follow by Wednesday morning. Wake County sheriff's deputies were called to the scene on Eagle Crossing Drive at about 6 a.m. Tuesday. Wilson told a 911 dispatcher that he had returned home and found his wife dead. "I just came in the door, and the back door is kicked in and my wife is on the kitchen floor. I haven't even checked on my kids yet," a sobbing Wilson told the dispatcher. He said a message was scrawled in blood on the floor next to her body, saying "Your (expletive) is dead. You're next." Investigators have not said how Nneka Wilson died. Her body was sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Chapel Hill for an autopsy. Two children were also found unharmed inside the house, authorities said. They were staying with relatives Tuesday night. Neighbors were stunned by the slaying. "I'm still devastated. I just cannot believe it. I don't personally know the people. I know the area," neighbor Gwen Spivey said. "It's very quiet, never been a whole lot of trouble. I've been here all my life, there's never been any trouble hardly." But neighbor Anna Bowers said that when the Wilsons first moved in, there were lots of different people in and out of the house, loud music and sometimes fighting. "They argued occasionally. They argued loudly and slammed doors," Bowers said. Relatives of Jakiem Wilson told WRAL the couple, who was married in 2004, had a good relationship as far as they knew. The victim's stepfather, James Hill, however, said the two argued often and that Nneka Wilson would often stay with him after an argument. "I knew he had something to do with it," Hill told WRAL after Jakiem Wilson was arrested. "He used to beat her all the time." Authorities: Slain Wife's Husband Waited Hours Before Calling 911 Posted: Today at 6:23 a.m. Updated: Today at 2:20 p.m. Raleigh — A Wendell woman died after being cut Monday evening, authorities said Wednesday. They also said her husband did not notify authorities until hours later. Investigators said Nneka Smith, 24, of 6637 Eagles Crossing Drive in Wendell, died sometime before midnight Monday. Her husband, Jakiem Willson, called 911 approximately six hours later, claiming that he found her dead on the kitchen floor. "It is obvious that he was not readily confessing to the crime. He portrayed a set of circumstances that he thought would allow him to escape the crime. We picked it apart," Chief Richard Johnson, of the Wake County Sheriff's Office, said. A sobbing Wilson told a 911 dispatcher: "I just came in the door, and the back door is kicked in and my wife is on the kitchen floor. I haven't even checked on my kids yet." Wilson said a message was scrawled in blood on the floor next to his wife's body, saying "Your (expletive) is dead. You're next." Deputies, however, believe the call was staged. "Sometimes, suspects try to cover their own tracks, and they make decisions to do certain things," Johnson said. "I'm not sure why he did it." Jakiem Wilson is charged with first-degree murder. He is being held in the Wake County Jail without bond. Authorities have not released a description of the murder weapon or a possible motive. Jamie Russell Holder, 18, of 1418 Old Buck Horn Road in Garner, and Roderick Ryan Howell, 17, of 1337 Hodge Road in Knightdale, were charged with being accessories after the fact of murder. Each is being held on a $2 million bond. Investigators spent most of Tuesday collecting evidence. They said they found items taken from the home nearby, behind an abandoned service station, at the corner of Martin Pond Road and Eagle Rock Road. "After talking with (Holder and Howell), we gained information that led to the recovery of items that were either in or removed from the crime scene during the crime," Johnson said. Authorities said the Wilsons' children were also found unharmed inside the house, authorities said. They are now staying with relatives. The victim's stepfather, James Hill, said the couple argued often and that his stepdaughter would often stay with him after an argument. Authorities: Wife Killed Hours Before Husband Called 911 Posted: Feb. 14 6:23 a.m. Updated: Feb. 14 7:42 p.m. Raleigh — A Wendell woman died after being cut Monday evening -- hours before her husband called 911 to report her slaying, authorities said Wednesday. Nneka Wilson, 24, died sometime before midnight Monday inside her 6637 Eagles Crossing Drive home, authorities said. Her husband, Jakiem Willson, called 911 at about 6 a.m. Tuesday, claiming that he found her dead on the kitchen floor, along with a threatening message scrawled in her blood. "It is obvious that he was not readily confessing to the crime. He portrayed a set of circumstances that he thought would allow him to escape the crime. We picked it apart," said Chief Richard Johnson of the Wake County Sheriff's Office. A sobbing Wilson told a 911 dispatcher: "I just came in the door, and the back door is kicked in and my wife is on the kitchen floor. I haven't even checked on my kids yet." He told the dispatcher that a bloody message said, "Your (expletive) is dead. You're next." But authorities believe the call was staged. Nneka Wilson was dead for between six and 16 hours before the 911 call, authorities said. They haven't released a description of the murder weapon. "Sometimes, suspects try to cover their own tracks, and they make decisions to do certain things," Johnson said. "I'm not sure why he did it." After hours of questioning Tuesday, investigators viewed Jakiem Wilson less as a grieving husband and more as the prime suspect in the case. "He had the chance to leave many, many times, and he stayed with us all day and we questioned him all day trying to get different factors straight. Ultimately, it added up to us making this case," Johnson said. Wilson has been charged with first-degree murder in his wife's death and is being held in the Wake County Jail without bond. Jamie Russell Holder, 18, of 1418 Old Buck Horn Road in Garner, and Roderick Ryan Howell, 17, of 1337 Hodge Road in Knightdale, were charged with being accessories after the fact of murder. Each is being held on a $2 million bond. "They assisted after the fact in the cleaning of the house and the cover-up of the crime," Johnson said. "After talking with them, we gained information that led to the recovery of items that were either in or removed from the crime scene during the crime." Investigators spent most of Tuesday collecting evidence. They said they found items taken from the home nearby, behind an abandoned service station at the corner of Martin Pond Road and Eagle Rock Road. Howell blew his family a kiss as he left a courtroom Wednesday after his initial appearance. His family said he was coerced into participating in the crime. "When they walked in there, (Wilson) told him, 'If you don't do what I tell you to do, in so many words, I'm going to do this, I'm going to do that,'" Ronald Howell said of his son. "I feel like he was up against a gun or something. I don't know, but that wasn't him." Ronald Howell said the criminal charge is out of character for his son. "For the most part, he's not a bad kid, but sometimes it's just getting caught up with the wrong people," he said. "My prayers go out to (Nneka Wilson's family). I apologize for the incident." Authorities haven't released a possible motive for the slaying. But Nneka Wilson's family said she was a victim of domestic violence. James Hill, her stepfather, said the couple argued often and that she would often stay with him after an argument. The Wilsons' children were found unharmed inside the house Tuesday morning, authorities said. They are now staying with relatives. Published: May 28, 2008 12:30 AM Modified: May 28, 2008 02:25 AM Husband admits to killing Wife was stabbed at home in 2007 Josh Shaffer, Staff Writer Comment on this story RALEIGH - Jakiem Wilson admitted killing his 24-year-old wife, the mother of their two children, Tuesday, hoping his courtroom concession will help him face lesser charges in Wake County's first death-penalty case of the year. Wilson, 24, faces first-degree murder charges in the 2007 slaying that took place just before Valentine's Day. Lawyers began seating jurors immediately after Wilson assured Superior Court Judge Henry Hight that he understood his actions. On Feb. 13, 2007, Wilson called a 911 dispatcher and reported, sobbing, that he had just returned home to find the door kicked open, his wife, Nneka Wilson, dead, and a threatening message written in her blood on the floor. Search warrants later uncovered blood in several rooms of their Wendell house, along with evidence that the Wilsons had fought. Autopsy reports showed Nneka Wilson had been stabbed in the chest and neck. There were defensive wounds on her arm. Wilson was charged with first-degree murder shortly after making the emergency call, and a Wake County prosecutor later said in court that Wilson called two friends to help him cover up the slaying. Two teens, Roderick Ryan Howell and Jamie Russell Holder, were charged with accessory after the fact to a felony. Early Tuesday, Wilson conceded to causing his wife's death -- a legal procedure that essentially says he agrees with a portion of the first-degree murder charge. His attorneys hope to show that he did not plan the killing, think about it ahead of time or commit it with a cool head. If Wilson is convicted of first-degree murder, jurors would choose between the death penalty and life in prison. Under second-degree or manslaughter charges, death would be off the table and lesser prison time could be given. The last defendant a Wake jury sent to death row was Byron Waring in July, for the murder of Lauren Redman. Jury selection is expected to take two weeks in Wilson's case. Evidence will not be presented until June 30, and the trial is expected to last two weeks. http://www.newsobserver.com/news/story/1087479.html
