John Doe Aug. 13, 1995, Santa Margarita Creek, CA.
Detectives seek identity of 1995 homicide victim By: YVETTE URREA - Staff Writer FALLBROOK ---- A young man shot execution-style in the head along the edge of the Santa Margarita Creek remains unidentified more than 10 years after his slaying. The body of the man, who appeared to be in his early 20s, was discovered around noon Aug. 13, 1995, by a person walking in a remote open area about a half mile west of Sandia Creek Drive and Rock Mountain Drive, sheriff's Detective Victor Caloca said. The person called U.S. Border Patrol agents, who then contacted the Sheriff's Department, he said. Caloca said after all this time, detectives have no leads on who the victim might be, but that perhaps someone has some information that can jumpstart the case. "It's a young person and someone's got to be missing him," Caloca said. The detective said he suspects someone did report the young man missing, but somehow the information connecting him to the homicide never got put together. The victim's head was partially bound with duct tape, he said. "I think he was executed there," Caloca said. He said the man had been dead for a few days before he was discovered, so investigators had a sketch artist do a rendering of the man after a facial reconstruction. The sketch and information about the victim was distributed to both San Diego and Riverside county media, but detectives never got any response, Caloca said. Investigators also searched missing persons databases, ran his fingerprints, and contacted military bases ---- but none offered any clues in the case. The young white man with short brown hair and blue eyes was 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighed about 182 pounds, he said. He had two tattoos, the first was a fleur de lis on his right bicep and the second was a crude-looking line drawing of a sun with some clouds and flying birds on his left arm. He also had an old gunshot wound scar on his left shoulder, Caloca said. Detectives at the time checked with tattoo parlors in Fallbrook and Escondido to see if anyone recognized either tattoo, but no one did. He wore a black T-shirt with "Marithe Francois Girbaud: A higher state of evolution" printed on the front and "Are you envolved over a ringed planet?" with four stars printed on the back, khaki-colored camouflage pants, and black combat-type boots, Caloca said. Caloca said if they were to identify the man, it could give detectives some leads on the homicide. Anyone with any information in the case is asked to contact the San Diego County Sheriff's Department at (858) 974-2321. Caloca said the person can remain anonymous.
