Case History
The victim was located near the Gilpin Covered Bridge, just north of I-95, within one mile of the nearest exit in Cecil County, Maryland on August 25, 1997. Because of the lack of blood at the scene and the close proximity to Interstate 95, the victim is believed to have been killed elsewhere and dumped at the location. He had been placed there minutes before discovery. He was still burning when the police arrived. Police don't believe the victim had much, if any, contact with anyone in Cecil County, and said he could have been killed in a nearby city, including Wilmington, Delaware, Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York or Washington, D.C.
He was wrapped in an ivy-patterned bed sheet and pillowcase that was traced to a small factory in New York. His severed body parts were wrapped in a separate tarp and placed behind the body. Both tarps were set on fire.
The body was most likely dumped in the wooded area between 5:30 and 6:15 a.m. The victim's remains were found at about 7:30 a.m.
He was dead for less than 24 hours.
The victim's physique and extensive dental work suggested that he was well cared for and would be missed.
