This is a reconstruction of what a Pasco County murder victim may have looked like.
NEW PORT RICHEY - For 18 years, no one has claimed him, and no one knows who killed him.
"We just want to identify this gentleman because there's gotta be family out there," said Cpl. Amy Diel with the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.
"It's one of the things that strikes us as somewhat strange, that no one has seemed come forward about this," said Detective Pete Federico.
To the Pasco Sheriff's Office, he is John Doe Case #89-4764 -- one of 40 cold cases in Pasco County.
His bones were found on January 24, 1989 in the woods off County Road 579 near San Antonio. He was shot in the head.
"It was estimated he was probably there between six to 12 weeks," said Federico.
For the first time, Pasco detectives are releasing pictures that investigators believe show what he may have looked like back in 1989.
"The medical examiners office determined that the individual was a white male, approximately 30 to 42 years of age, and was 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-7 in height," said Federico.
Detectives are also releasing information about a black T-shirt worn by the victim.
"The Black Hills of South Dakota T-shirt is quite prominent out there. It is a unique design and that someone might recognize," said Doug Tobin with the Sheriff's Office.
"We've talked to authorities in several states trying to identify witnesses or who the victim might be. We've also gone back and researched the T-shirt company and that kind of stuff to see where this T-shirt's been sold," said Sgt. John Corbin.
The murder is one of two unsolved mysteries being studied at a cold case program at St. Leo University.
"St. Leo's been a good partner with us on this. We've done approximately seven cases so far. We have developed lots of leads," said Corbin.
But so far, nothing that can link the man to anyone or anywhere.
"If someone comes forward we can enter someone's DNA in and attempt to get a comparison and possibly identify the victim." explained Federico.
Investigators also say the dead man had a tattoo of a rose and spider web on his left forearm.
