Case History
This suicide victim was located at the Super Eight Motel in Aiken County, South Carolina. Death occured on November 10, 1997, three days before he was located.
The labels were peeled off two bottles of anti-depressants in his motel room. He paid for three days in the room with cash - all $5 bills. He carried no identification, telling motel workers he wanted to ``leave all that behind.''
During previous weeks, he had given the name Jeffrey Daniel and a New York address as he was checked into Aiken Regional Hospital and the state hospital after a previous suicide attempt. The address didn't pan out. He gave a phony Social Security number and a birth date of Aug. 2, 1963.
He smoked Kools and GPC generic cigarettes, and officials found a large bottle and several rolls of Tums in his motel room, along with two empty Pepsi bottles, an uneaten salad and bottles of vodka and Kahlua.
A Super Nintendo game with two game paddles was also found. With several pages of notes about the games he was playing. Investigators found the games Lufia II: Rise of the Sinstrals, Secret of Evermore and Tecmo: Secret of the Stars in the room.
He had attempted suicide two weeks earlier at another Aiken motel, first building a tent out of a roll of cellophane food wrap - apparently an attempt to suffocate himself - then slashing his wrist before motel workers found him. He was hospitalized, but records show he was uncooperative when hospital workers tried to find out who he was or why he tried to kill himself. When he was released, he went back to Aiken, checked into another motel and tried again, this time succeeding.
