> SafeWork Tuesday, 6/20 NYC Safe Horizon’s seminal awareness-raising and training program to help businesses address domestic violence in the workplace. Domestic violence doesn’t just hit at home. It’s a workplace issue, too. Domestic violence costs businesses $3 - 5 billion annually in medical expenses and another $100 million in lost wages, absenteeism and reduced productivity. 96% of employees who were domestic violence victims reported some type of problem in the workplace – such as stalking or harassment – as a result of their abuse. Even if a woman’s abusive partner does not work at her company, her employer may be liable if the abuser creates a hostile environment at her workplace. Safe Horizon has launched SafeWork – an innovative initiative to help corporations address domestic violence and protect their bottom lines. With the help of founding sponsor USI, SafeWork has already reached more than 60 employers since its inception, including dozens of CEOs and other top executives at the launch event in October 2005. On Tuesday, June 20, 2006, Safe Horizon will host the third SafeWork training session for management and human resources professionals. The session includes a short play about a senior executive who is a victim of domestic violence and discussions with experts about the real impact of the issue in the workplace. Attendees will receive guidance on how to address domestic violence within their organizations and a practical toolkit to support their efforts. Experiencing the play in an intimate setting, just steps away from the performers, is part of the power of the training, so sessions are kept small and space is limited. Please contact Myung Lee at 212.577.5095 or mlee@safehorizon.org immediately to reserve your space. For more information about workplace violence policies, please visit www.safeatworkcoalition.org or www.caepv.org. Special Thanks to USI Safe Horizon is proud to have USI Holdings Corporation as a corporate partner in this innovative initiative. As a member of our Chairman’s Council, USI has taken a stand against violence and is committed to helping Safe Horizon move victims of violence from crisis to confidence.
