Leg bones washed up from Allegheny River - Sharpsburg, PA
Police seeking clues in bones discovery in Sharpsburg By The Tribune-Review Wednesday, December 5, 2007 Allegheny County police are reviewing missing persons reports as they work to solve the mystery of human bones that were found washed up on the shore of the Allegheny River in Sharpsburg. The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office has not made determinations regarding the race, gender or height of the person. Fishermen found bones from a leg, including a foot with a tennis shoe attached, near the 62nd Street Bridge on Sunday. Police searched the river bank but did not find anything else, county police Assistant Superintendent James Morton said. Anyone with information should contact the medical examiner's office at 412-350-4800 or county homicide detectives at 412-473-1300. http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/news/cityregion/s_541215.html

Bone pieces in Sharpsburg fire pit are of adult human By The Tribune-Review Saturday, December 8, 2007 A forensic anthropologist has determined that about 60 bone fragments found in a fire pit on the banks of the Allegheny River in Sharpsburg are that of a right leg and foot of an adult human, Allegheny County Medical Examiner Dr. Karl E. Williams said Friday. Dr. Jeffrey H. Schwartz of the University of Pittsburgh was not able, however, to determine the age, race or gender of the remains which were found last weekend. The medical examiner and Allegheny County Police are trying to find clues to help identify the remains. One young man took pictures on his cellular phone of what appears to be leg bones and a shoe he found last Saturday. By the time he called police Sunday and took them to the riverbank, the leg bones and shoe were gone. County and local police searched the area and found the bone fragments in the fire pit. http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/news/cityregion/s_541835.html
