WEST HARTFORD, Conn. -- There has been no evidence, no real suspects and no word for more than 30 years in the disappearance of Lisa White.
So, what happened to the young girl from Vernon who vanished after leaving home to visit a friend?
NBC 30 investigated the cold case.
Judy Kelly, Lisa’s mother, said losing her daughter destroyed her life.
"There isn't a day that goes by even now that I don't think about her," Kelly said.
It's a name that no longer makes headlines, but the search for White is not over.
Detective Don Skewes is currently in charge of her case, which began on the evening of Nov. 1, 1974. That's when Lisa was last seen in the front yard of a friend's home at 108 Prospect Street.
At the time there was talk that White had run away because she had gotten into some trouble with her parents the night before. There was also no evidence of an abduction. But when time passed and there was still not a trace of White, police began to think differently.
For years, Kelly collected clippings from her daughter's case, and from cases of other girls who went missing soon before or after.
If White were found today she'd be 45 years old.
At this point, her mother fears if she ever hears news it will be that White was killed all those years ago. Even that she said is something she's now ready to face.
"I just would like to know where she is, you know, so I can put her somewhere," Kelly said. "So I have some place to go to."
Anyone with information about the Lisa white case is asked to call Vernon police at (860) 872-9126 or the National Center For Missing and Exploited Children at (800) 843-5678.
