Lansing police are offering parents a new tool to help find children when they are in danger. The department announced it's handing out free DNA kits. It's part of the larger "safety prints program" that Lansing police already have in place. Now parents can get an identification kit with their kids DNA and fingerprints. Investigators say that information can help police if the child ever goes missing.
Jason Pierce, LPD identification unit: "It can save days off an investigation. It can help find children faster and it's just a handy tool for investigators."
Police say they'll be handing out the identification kits at Potter Park Zoo, the Impression Five Museum, Lugnuts home games and other big events throughout the year.
