Man Charged in Murder of 20 Yr Old Girlfriend, KS
Relatives: Slain Woman Abused By Boyfriend Olathe Man Charged In Girlfriend's Murder POSTED: 5:20 pm CST December 28, 2006 UPDATED: 5:39 pm CST December 28, 2006 Natasha Crump OLATHE, Kan. -- A Johnson County man has been charged with his girlfriend's murder while the victim's relatives said they're reconsidering the couple's volatile relationship, KMBC's Peggy Breit reported Thursday. Natasha D. Crump, 20, of Ottawa, Kan., was found slain Saturday morning in an Olathe residence in the 1200 block of West Loula Street. Jose Solis, 23, of Olathe, is charged in the case. Crump's family said the relationship was marked by domestic violence; they said that several months ago, Crump had moved out with her 20-month-old daughter and relocated to Ottawa. Family members said that when Crump's car broke down, she moved back in with Solis so she could keep up her two jobs. Relatives said Crump was a loving mother who worked hard to make things right for her daughter. However, Crump's relatives said Solis was upset that she and the child had moved out in the first place. "He was very abusive, very controlling. He didn't like for her to talk to other men; didn't like her to have, you know, anybody around her," aunt Debra Kern said. "He had always said, no matter what -- nobody could have her unless he had her." Kern, who lives near Solis, said she saw some ugly scenes between the couple. "He would stand outside my door and pound on my door, 'Natasha, Natasha. Come on, let's go.' And as long as she was with him, it was OK," Kern said. Breit reported that murder is already part of the Crump family history. Her grandfather was found murdered in his home nine years ago during a robbery, and her uncle is in prison for killing six people in his estranged wife's family. Although relatives said they knew Crump had been abused in the past, they said they didn't expect Solis to be charged with her murder. "We didn't exactly know the extent of all that, other than they were arguing and fighting one night and the police came, I'm sure," uncle Donnie Brooks said. Meanwhile, family members said they will raise the couple's toddler. "Definitely that baby's the one who's suffering. She doesn't have a mom, and she doesn't have a daddy. It's going to be rough on her," Kern said. Solis is being held on $500,000 bond. Thursday, he told the judge he wants a public defender. Crump's friends and co-workers at the Mustache Cup Restaurant are working to put together a fund for her daughter. http://www.thekansascitychannel.com/news/10624874/detail.html
