Foster Care Month Events During May, organizations all over the country will be holding events to recognize and honor foster parents and heighten the need for people who will get involved in foster care. We invite you to come by and tour our offices, meet some of our staff, foster parents, and others who have been impacted by foster care and who have made a positive contribution to children in foster care. The volunteers are CASAs, FCRB volunteers, foster families and children, adoptive families, Case Workers, Mentors, Child Advocates, Donors, Judges, GALs and community members who responded to the library or church invitations. Maps Date: May 1, 2006 Time: 1:30 PM Event: Mesa County Proclamation Mesa County will sponsor a celebration with a proclamation on May 1, wherein the Mesa County Commissioners will proclaim May as Foster Parent Recognition Month. The celebration will include cake and the dedication of a tree which will have blue ribbons attached that day. Ultimately the tree will be planted in a county park with a plaque that indicates that it is dedicated to Mesa County children who have experienced abuse and neglect, and the foster parents who help them and their families. For families who do not have a foster care license a complimentary one-day park pass will be issued for the Day at the Fort. An interesting sideline of the Ft. Knox event is noted in the day's title, Foster Day at the Fort - Bridging the Gap to a More Secure Future. The Fort is located very near a recently built bridge that is to provide a gateway to DownEast Maine. Hence, the day will reflect a more secure future both for Maine as a State and the State of Maine’s children.
