MILWAUKEE - The Milwaukee County district attorney's office received a $1.4 million federal grant toward stemming domestic violence, according to a statement released by the office Monday.
The money is expected to help authorities handle stalking and domestic-violence cases, as well as sexual-assault cases involving elderly and disabled victims, the statement said.
District Attorney E. Michael McCann is scheduled to announce the grant at a news conference Tuesday morning in Milwaukee. Accompanying him will be Teri Jendusa-Nicolai of Wind Lake, who was brutally beaten and left for dead in an Illinois storage locker by her former husband in January 2004. She will discuss the importance of advocacy for victims, the release said.
The grant also will support a partnership among victim advocates, batterer intervention specialists and probation agents to prepare for the return of incarcerated offenders into society, the statement said.
