National Coalition Against Domestic Violence Subject: NCADV Budget Action Alert BUDGET VOTE TODAY IN HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES ACT NOW TO SAVE VAWA FUNDING House Republican leaders are moving ahead today on the FY07 budget resolution after months of delay. In an unprecedented move, House GOP leaders have allowed a separate vote today on a resolution endorsing a $7.158 billion increase in health and education spending over President Bush’s Budget request. As you may know, the President’s Budget for FY 2007 does NOT include funding for any NEW VAWA programs. If an increase in the budget is not passed, VAWA funding may be reduced and it is very unlikely that new programs will receive ANY funding. If you have not called your Representative do so TODAY and tell them to vote for the Castle Budget Alternative which would add a little over $7 billion dollars to increase health and education spending!! With these additional funds, critical domestic programs such as those in VAWA will have a chance to receive at least level funding. When Calling Your Representative - use this toll- free number and ask to be connected to your Representative's office: (800) 459-1887 Tell them: Your name and the city and state you live in. "Please VOTE FOR the CASTLE BUDGET ALTERNATIVE which would add $7.1 billion to health and education spending over the President’s request." Let them know that an increase in funding for health and education will help victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking. Tell them how your programs are being hurt or how you cannot serve victims in your communities because you need more resources. Never called your Members of Congress before? Don't worry, it's easy! When you call your Representative, your call will be answered by a receptionist. Tell him or her that you want to leave a message for the Representative. The receptionist will take down your message.
