Pataki to Sign Shaken Baby Law Associated Press Published Jul 30, 2006 Governor Pataki is expected to a sign a new law Sunday that will make it a crime to seriously injure a child by violently shaking them. Cynthia's law creates the new crime of ``reckless assault of a child.' A person could be charged with the crime if a child less than five years old is injured by shaking, slamming or throwing.
