Police Seek Mother Who Abandoned Baby In Stanton
(CBS) STANTON, Calif. A newborn baby left in some bushes in Stanton was being cared for at a hospital, while police sought the mother, authorities said.
A woman who lives nearby found the baby boy, with his umbilical cord attached, about 10:45 p.m. Friday, along Santa Gerturdes Avenue near Santa Cruz Street, according to Orange County Sheriff's Lt. Hayward Miller.
The child showed some signs of hypothermia, but was expected to make a full recovery, Miller said.
Sheriff's deputies combed the area with bloodhounds this morning in an effort to pick up the scent of whoever abandoned the baby, Miller said, adding that they would probably only be effective if the person left the area on foot.
