Police try to identify body found near bike trail, AK
Police try to identify body found near bike trail Anchorage Daily News Published: May 20th, 2008 12:10 AM Last Modified: May 20th, 2008 12:56 AM A body discovered off a bike trail in West Anchorage has police working to determine both the cause of death and identity of the person. The death does not immediately appear suspicious, police said. The body was found face-down in a swampy, wooded area near Raspberry Road and Minnesota Drive and had been there for some time -- likely weeks or even months -- before being discovered by a trail user Sunday night, said police Lt. Paul Honeman. Because of the amount of time that had elapsed, police were having trouble identifying the corpse, including whether it belonged to a man or woman, though it appeared to be a man, he said. There were no obvious signs of trauma, and the death was not being investigated as a homicide, Honeman said. It is possible the person died from hypothermia, but police are awaiting the results of an autopsy. The area where the body was discovered is often used for camping, Honeman said, and the person might have been living there. http://www.adn.com/news/alaska/story/411527.html
