florida rent-to-own company Buddy’s Home Furnishings recently helped raise $4,000 to purchase a full-breed bloodhound to aid the Polk County Sheriff’s Department in tracking missing children. Most county law enforcement agencies in the U.S. do not budget for bloodhounds, which are vital in tracking the scent of missing and abducted children. So far, Buddy’s has helped raise funds to purchase six bloodhounds for various county sheriff’s departments throughout Florida.
++On July 10, the Polk County Sheriff’s Department held a press conference honoring Buddy’s and Child Protection Education of America for their joint effort in donating Ella to the department. Ella, named in honor of a Florida fallen officer, will now enter a one-year training program to become an official tracking bloodhound.
++Bloodhounds have been bred since Medieval times to track game. They have long, loose-hanging parts of the upper lip and long ears that funnel and push air and scents toward the olfactory system. This breed can follow a cold scent and has become one of the most effective tracking animals of the human scent in modern times.
++Buddy’s has worked with CPEA and law enforcement agencies for several years to help find missing and abducted children.
