On-line Chat Lands Altamonte Springs Man In Jail POSTED: 11:44 pm EDT October 10, 2006 UPDATED: 11:57 pm EDT October 10, 2006 ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. -- Channel 9 has obtained the online chat, that led to the arrest of an Altamonte Springs man. 23-year-old Tim Laufer is accused of pretending to be 18, in order to have sex with a 14-year-old girl. However, the girl was actually an undercover deputy. It all started when deputies say Laufer emailed a picture of himself to what he thought was a 14-year old girl. Then about 48 hours later, deputies arrested him at Merrit Island High School. Deputies say he drove to the school to meet the teen. “He brought alcohol. It’s pretty obvious what he’s up to,” said Lt. Tod Goodyear, Brevard County Sheriff’s Office. Laufer’s chat log showed that he knew the meeting was wrong. His username was Ranger024.
