LEE COUNTY: When a child goes missing, every second counts. A new initiative in Lee County will spread information on missing children a whole lot quicker.
The Amber Alert System is a notification to the general public, by media outlets, issued when police confirm that a child has been abducted. The system has been around for more than a decade.
Digital billboards will now display Amber Alert information to drivers in Lee County whenever an alert issued for the area.
Workers will test five billboards across Lee County Tuesday. Two are located at Summerlin Road and College Parkway, and three are located along U.S.- 41.
The new signs include information such as the missing child's picture, a description of the abductor and a photo of a vehicle, if one is invloved.
These new billboards are part of a partnership between the Outdoor Advertising Association and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
